Roy scored 25.7 points a game this past season while shooting 43% from 3.
If he’s healthy this a huge get!!!
Man this is brutal but it is what it is
The Dougler wins 4 games and we steal his best player lol. I can’t believe a large chunk of the fanbase wanted to hire him after coaching approximately 0 minutes of college ball.
To be fair it was his first year EVER
And that’s exactly why he should have never been considered for the OSU job but a bunch of fans still wanted him.
Couldn’t have been worse than Ford or Boynton. If he totally failed, we could have gotten rid of him quickly and moved on. Boynton went the Ford route did just above average one season and got our idiot AD to give him an extension to drag out his subpar mediocrity.
I’m guessing Doug encouraged him to do what’s best for him and pushed him to Stillwater. Deep breaths my dude
Lutz appears to be putting together a nice team. I’m optimistic OSU basketball is headed in the right direction.
He won 4 games. He’s obviously worse. It’s not Boynton’s fault they gave him a big contract.
My breaths are just fine. He didn’t deserve one bit of consideration for the job and the season he just had proves it.
Dude if you think it couldn’t have been worse than Ford or Boynton, both of whom got us to the NCAA tourney, after watching what Doug did this year (and not just on the court), then you’re smoking some serious hasheesh.
I don’t know if he’s going to be a good coach or not but you are judging a guy that took over Green Bay in May which means 1: he’s not inheriting a good team, 2: he has 0 time to recruit because summer has started, 3: his best player who averaged 20 plus ppg only played in 11 games, and 4: had a kid who started for them that was committed to us who most likely wouldn’t have played a single minute this year for OSU as their 3rd leading scorer. Why not at least give him a chance to get full year of recruiting kids and be able to get guys out of the portal before he’s deemed a terrible candidate for us.
Boynton didn’t get us to the tournament. Cade Cunningham did. Boynton is the one that put likekele next to him who barely found minutes on Ohio states team as a 5th year senior
He coached approximately 0.00 minutes of college ball before this season started. He was a terrible candidate for OSU.
None of this sounds like a glowing resume for a head coach at OSU.
Which again is why it’s silly to say we couldn’t have done worse with him than Boynton or Ford.
This is why I can’t take him seriously in any other forum discussions. There’s no deep thinking involved in what he decides to posts. It’s like the mind of a 17 year old or something.
With Ford we made the tournament his very first year. He could actually bring in talent to the point we could compete with some teams. Boynton, for all his inconsistencies, at least could make the team entertaining and would actually beat some teams he had no business beating. He went deep into the NIT his first season.
I’m not so sure Doug would’ve been able to do either one of those in year one.
Just because you’re a former player doesn’t mean you can coach the game. Sometimes it works, and a lot of times it doesn’t.
Doug’s biggest problem is that he is trying to be a coach and a sports personality at the same time. I don’t know if he can do better. Also, this article is about how his best player was injured all season. I’m not saying he’ll turn it around this year, but if he doesn’t, he’ll be gone.
My point was that taking a chance and hiring a terrible coach then would be better than hiring a mediocre one. Two below average coaches in a row have now given us a two decade downward spiral. Having Doug come in and put up a couple of miserable seasons would have gotten him fired and given us a redo. Boynton and Ford giving us just enough hope to hang ourselves with for two decades is waaaaaaay worse than a failed splash hire that lasts two seasons. Not even close. Now we absolutely need a homerun hire or our program is going to sink into obscurity. I hope Lutz is it because it’s do or die now. There’s no slow rebuild option. We need a resurrection. OSU is a crap job now and will remain so until we regain relevance.
Hey champ,
This is you.

Making a deep NIT run is the equivalent of winning The Heart of Dallas Bowl. That should be one of your worst outings, not your laurels. We had a proud basketball tradition. Eddie brought it back with 15 years of excellence. We never really had football aspirations until Gundy.
