‘He moved right back into his house, his kids are here.’
When Gundy fired Richmond we ended up with our worst run defense in school history. Richmond had actually given OSU decent production across the defensive line. I have no idea why Gundy thought it was wise to let him go. I’m convinced these past couple of years that Gundy had become absolutely delusional and senile. Having absolutely no idea what he was trying to do any longer. His recruiting, retention, and new hires proved it.
Most of us who aren’t Mike Gumby fanboys did not like that he fired Richmond to begin with. @bill18 says it all, our defense and pass rush started sucking as soon as he was gone and that replacement, where was that guy from, anyway, stunk it up!
Morris showed a lot of class bringing him back.
His ego was his biggest weakness. Dude always had an oversized one from the time he was QB1. He once tried to start a fight w/ the wrestling team’s intramural softball team cause they were whupping Gumby’s team’s rear! My roommate at the time, who I won’t name, was on that softball team told me that. ![]()
I thought Gundy let him go because he criticized Bryan Nardo and the 3-3-5 scheme as a whole. Greg voiced his thoughts to some donors, and Mike got mad. I forget where I saw that.
Obviously, Greg was right.
Letting GR go was a head scratcher for sure. I’m glad he’s back maybe with some success we have our next head coach.
Many forget Richmond was here from 2018-2023. His defensive line only got better over that time, and not worse. Maybe it’s because of the 4-2-5 scheme we played. Nonetheless, it’s not his fault Gundy hired a fraud as a DC. Gundy fired a guy that made stopping the run better, and then retains the guy that gave him the 125th and 132nd best overall defense
. Like I said, I think Gundy started to become very delusional.
That Nardo hiring was probably the straw… already had poor OL blocking schemes and a limited OC.
Looking back, the handwriting was on the wall…
