I would give Gundy a pass for a 6-6 season. He’s earned that. If it happens 2 years in a row then I think you consider going a different direction.
Gundy went 8-3 when you were sharing online petitions to fire him. 8-3 is a better winning percentage than 21-9. Boynton had the best player in the nation in a sport that only has 5 players on the floor at one time and managed 1 post-season win against Liberty. I say give him next year to see what he can do, but if we’re around .500 again we need to look at other options. Gundy has built up enough previous success to give him the benefit of the doubt, Boynton has not.
Just gotta stick it out until the NCAA issues start to clear up I think. If expectations aren’t met next season it’s time to make a new hire. Maybe the NCAA will have destroyed KU by then and we can somehow get Self.
I just want him to figure out how to draw up a half court offense.
The NCAA will do nothing about KU. They are too scared to go after people that refuse to work with them on internal investigations. They only go after the ones who don’t benefit immensely from their programs. The lesson learned from our post season ban is to always know that the NCAA is just there to punish you. They aren’t looking to give you any credibility on working with them.
Same. I still think trying to have Ice run the offense is where a lot of our issues stem from. Unless he’s within 3 feet of the net he’s not a threat. He may be able to score some points some games but I think it comes to the detriment of the team overall.
When Doug was the point guard he wasn’t much of an offensive threat, but the team moved the ball well enough it didn’t seem to hurt us. The half court offense had some flow to it. This team doesn’t have an identity. When teams press us Ice will walk to the ball to take it out every time. Drives me crazy. If we stink in the half court let’s run and gun. Why are we walking around so much? Are they out of shape?
I guess I just think this program should be better than an average of 4th in the conference. Sorry for having higher expectations. I guess I’m just one of the few that thinks being the lucky 80 out of 130 should be a little more challenging.
Not sure if you care much about men’s basketball, but if you do I would expect you to have that same energy towards Boynton. We are currently 8th in the conference and I’m sure our average standing in the conference is worse than 4th over the last 5 years. You seemed sympathetic towards Boynton earlier in the month, but it does seem like your changing your tune. I think we agree on what needs to be done for Boynton going forward, but we don’t when it comes to Gundy. I think Gundy’s body of work is good enough that he deserves the benefit of the doubt if he has a 6-6 type season. I don’t think you see it that way. For me it would take 2 or 3 mediocre 6-6 type years before you look at going a different direction.
5th, 7th, 9th, and 6th is how OSU has finished in conference standings in the Boynton era. He gets the best player in the nation, and credit to him for doing that, but 5th in the conference with that talent is not very good.
