The Cowboys at least gave their weather-braving fans something to root for in the second half.

Glad I forgot this started at 2.

Sean Sutton, Travis Ford, Mike Boynton, Steve Lutz - aren’t these all the same coach? They are all good, decent guys who work hard. However, we get the same results no matter the name of the coach. Brad Underwood was our only hope and Illinois opened up the bank vault to snatch him away. So where does that leave OSU basketball?

Sutton might’ve been all right. He got derailed by his demons and school politics.

I still say too early to give up on Lutz, but this season will be strike one if it doesn’t improve.

No fire out of lutz and no fire out of his team. Defense is still bad and we just shoot the three ball. I would like to see lutz call time outs early and yank guys out that are loafing on the defensive side of the ball and I don’t care if he’s playing walk ons. I guess it’s too hard to bring a coach in here that shows passion. Time will tell but not feeling good about it.

I often wonder what might have happened if we kept Sean Sutton around for a while longer. I think we would’ve been very good.

He was a felon. That is not someone to be mentoring kids.

Well, he did it for 7 more years at ORU. He got clean. I get firing him, and maybe he needed it, but I wonder if he could have been suspended until he went through rehab.

I wasn’t suggesting we should have kept him. I was wondering how we’d have fared with him as a coach sans his personal issues. I should have been more specific. I agree we couldn’t keep him under the circumstances.

I’m not sure you’ve watched many games this year, but Lutz has been doing this exact thing all season long. He’s specifically pulled Anthony Roy several times immediately after he’s zoned out on defense or missed an assignment. He immediately pulled Parsa, of all people, in the game against KSU for lack of defense and rebounding. He’s done with the same with Miller and other guys. At some point, these paid players have to want it more than the coach. On the flip side, and Nathan brought this up as a good point on the Reload pod a few days ago, the fact that they are getting paid now and using donor money does muddy the water. How often and how long can you actually sit a guy that’s getting NIL and everything else? It’s easy to say “I don’t care if just the walk ons play” but that’s divorced from reality for several reasons, one of them being that we’d obviously still lose and you’d still complain.

I agree about his usage of timeouts. I get wanting to keep them for late game situations but sometimes you gotta pull the plug when the team is reeling.

This is the last time I’ll mention it because I don’t come here to argue about the same thing over and over again. I’m not saying Lutz is infallible or doesn’t deserve some of the blame. Of course he does. But that blame and accountability, especially in this era, has to be shared with the players. They’re not small children incapable of listening or buying into what their coach is selling. Maybe the recruiting could be better, and it will be, if that’s the case. But the players also should be expected to step up and and take ownership of their poor play and the fans do them a disservice by blaming everything on the coach.
