The Cowboys couldn’t keep up with the hot-shooting Red Raiders.
If we would actually play defense. Then perhaps Tech won’t score 100+ on us
.
Good teams don’t get blown out plain and simple
When you’re a team that plays poor defense and you go up against a top15 team, this tends to happen. Better improve or it’s NIT bound.
I was hoping the defense would improve when we got to conference play. Apparently not! This won’t be the last blowout unless they don’t change defensive technique. I obviously don’t have the answers but maybe one of the following would work:
- Different lineup with guys that take defense serious
- Matchup zone
- Pressure full court
From what I saw today it looks like a long hard winter.
These guys think defense is that fence around the back yard
Obvious defensive issues were not the only reason we lost. Our point guards played like idiots today. I guess they thought hooping on Bethune meant they could do the same against a team like Tech. If I was Roy, I would have been pissed (did I see him say something to Curry/Clary?) to be our only offense from the outside just to watch these two jack up bad shots left and right. Also, Miller was a very disappointing no show.
It was good to see Ahmed continue to improve.
Agree with your observations. Defense was actually not as terrible as it usually is. We allowed some easy ones but for the most part we defended and rebounded fairly well. The glaring difference was an inability to get the shots to go, by Curry, Clary, both Colemans, and especially Miller. It’s going to be some tough sledding when so many guys can’t get shots to fall.
And I don’t think the PGs did that bad, despite what the know-it-all Fran Fraschilla said. (He talks way too much for a color guy. Give me Bryndon Manzer any day.) Yes, they took a few ill advised shots, but Curry is a slicer by trade, and Fran clearly doesn’t really know all the strengths and records of some of our players.
Oh, yes, and Ben Ahmed needs to start alongside Fallah from here on.
I definitely don’t mind Curry slashing since that’s his specialty. Or even taking a mid-range since he can hit those. But I’d rather he never shoot a 3 even though I think he’s made a few this year. Something wonky goes off with his shot the further out he gets. I just wish he would’ve taken it to the rim more and dished.
Fran hit the nail on the head. Our point guards gave us no chance. It was tough to watch. Coupled with a horrible defense I don’t know where to go. There are some pieces with the big men and wing players, but it’ll be tough with the way this team doesn’t play defense and that level of point guard play. Just not good basketball
I’ll agree that Fran was correct about some of the shots that the PGs were taking. It did get uncanny how much more Roy was hitting his shot late in the game which made Fran’s point even more prescient.
