Maybe not just money to pay players but also coaching and staff. Boone gave us a lot of good facilities but I am pretty sure Alabama consistently gets good players and coaches. We have to rely on finding a few diamonds in the rough.
Some don’t pan out while others distinguish themselves. Without depth, the ones that don’t pan out are the ones giving up big plays and losing individual battles on the field. Hard for a team to overcome those mistakes.
everyone here is delusional on our ability to complete under the current rules. We are never going to pay as much for a player as Alabama. End of story hash tag we are fu$ked. There is nothing else to say.
The only way that can happen is to overturn the Supreme Court case of NCAA v. BOR University of Oklahoma and Georgia. That court case gave the conferences the ability to negotiate their own media deals instead of the NCAA. Overturn that and it goes back to the NCAA who would distribute the revenue equally.
The best part of this season, while we did overachieve, was that we beat OU for the forever bedlam trophy, kept them out of the playoff, and denied them a chance for a B12 championship as they turn tail and run out of town. The players on this team did that. Thank you for that Alan Bowman.
So while second place is bittersweet, annilating OU was pretty cool. The fact they are butthurt over it makes it even sweeter. I know they have more money and have always paid their players more than most other corrupt programs. Always good to defeat money and arrogance. Wish we could have done the same to Texas but I’ll take this season and enjoy it.
The playing field has not been even since way before NIL. In the 1970s schools could offer almost unlimited scholarships. In 1972 Pitt brought in 60 freshmen. 4 years later they won the NC with a senior laden class led by Tony Dorsett. Once they made scholarship limits then the Blue Bloods just started an arms race with facilities and coaching staffs. The parameters change but nothing really changes. OSU will never win a NC. It all starts with an athletic budget.
At least we are not Baylor or Texas Tech this year.
Against this big and talented Texas team, we needed to play up tempo and tire them out… but what do I know?
Anyhow, our OC really needs to be replaced. No innovation, no new plays. We had several OC’s in the past which could find weakness in every team, no matter how good they were. Dunn is not dynamic enough. When will Gundy bite the bullet and let him go?!
I believe Nardo has the skills to develop an elite defense, he just needs some time like Knowles did. But how long can the defense stay on the field?
We’re not stupid. Most people know that, and nobody has been asking them to be elite. But one conference title in 20 years is a little pathetic when you have programs in your conference not named OU and Texas that have been able to win at least two or more. Get over yourself.
If Nardo is going to stick with a 3-3-5 then you better hope he has about three players in his front 7 or so that are NFL worthy. Cause his defense ain’t gonna do $h1+ unless that happens.
Anyone else think our offensive scheme was stale AF yesterday? Given the circumstances, not sure why we played so conservatively — give me the kitchen sink, especially as 15-pt underdog.
Yea as I have said in the past and I could be wrong but the Texas Offense pretty much owned the OSU defense. Texas could score at will so I don’t see why anyone could fault the OSU Offense as they had zero chance get us any kind of a lead.
