‘Our sample size in two weeks are two totally different results.’
I’m excited to see how they perform in the next two games. I (and a whole lot of fans) was expecting too much for a team of 91 transfers to be highly efficient right out of the gate. We still should have beaten Tulsa, but I am optimistic that EM is continuing to learn on the job how to handle the week-to-week demands of getting his team ready for each unique opponent. This is still a new program, even with all the NT transfers, and they have to learn to play together.
I feel that the game against Tulsa was lost for a number of reasons. Coaching and play calling was terrible. We had 90 new players and no chemistry. We were nervous and over confident. We seemed slow and sluggish, which I attribute to the heat. Tulsa players handled it better than we did and were more prepared to play in it. And Tulsa is probably better than we thought. 100 degree heat will make even a Greyhound slow.
Now it remains to be seen how good Oregon to give us an idea if we beat a really good team or a slightly above average team.
But then one week later they play like a well-oiled machine?
Yeah, Tulsa had to play in the same weather, and it’s not like we don’t play in Oklahoma. I buy that Oregon was almost definitely taken off their feet by the heat, but it doesn’t make sense that we would be (someone mentioned that Tulsa practices outdoors and we practice indoors, that could be it, I suppose).
We lost to Tulsa on purpose to make sure Oregon underestimated how good we were
