STILLWATER — Oklahoma State tight end Josh Ford, a Stillwater native, represented the Cowboys at Big 12 Media Days this summer in part because he was the only returning piece on that side of the ball. On Wednesday, that cornerstone piece of the offense announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on Instagram. “After a lot of prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining,” Ford wrote. “I’m trusting God’s plan and the next chapter he has for me. “Football has always been more than a game. It’s my ministry. I believe God is leading me to take that ministry to another place to continue growing, serving and impacting others through this sport I love.” Ford missed Saturday’s game after popping up on the injury report last week. Through the first four games, he averaged a 61% snap count, putting him second among all non-quarterback skill players behind only receiver Terrill Davis (64%). The next closest tight end, Will Monney played only 22% of snaps, for context. Ford was one of two Cowboys this season to catch a touchdown pass and ranked ninth in receptions (three), but sixth in yards with…

There are maybe six guys I don’t want to go and this would be one of them.

Don’t waste another dime on quitters. Not a good look for a self proclaimed Christian

Tell us Jesus, how would you have handled it?

Horrible take.

Yeah….cause Jesus kept his ministry contained to Nazareth alone, right? That’s a bad take. A kid transferring out does not negatively reflect on his religious beliefs. Attitudes like yours make it tougher for the rest of us to show the world who Jesus is. Thanks for nothing.

My Jesus never quit a single thing which He had started

I guess you’ve never quit a job in your entire life. You know, finding something more fulfilling that also might make you more successful?

For once, I would like someone, not just here, but in life… to have humility enough to just back down from their bad takes instead of doubling down on them.

Please don’t say “God is guiding you to this.” Just say you want to transfer. God is everywhere and you can spread the word wherever you are…transferring has nothing to with religion but everything to do with playing time and winning.

I’m a Christian and get really tired of this whole I prayed over it and God guided me to transfer or sign for a team bs. God isn’t interested in you winning football games. He certainly isn’t interested in your becoming a famous rich athlete. Some could even say football and athletes are modern day golden calves that God explicitly said not to worship. Best of luck to him but let’s not use God as an excuse for your decision dude. Also Go Pokes!

So, like a disinterested god that doesn’t really care what you do?

It’s football. Not his salvation.

I think it’s more like a God that cares more about your salvation than your career.

Weird, so not omniscient. Just kinda shows up for the high points and you just do your own thing most of the time.

Hate to see the young man go but in my opinion this is about the all mighty dollar rather than the All Mighty.
