Live Blog: Oklahoma State Opens Season against UT-Martin

Gotta hope Hejny is okay. I just don’t think this O-Line is good enough to keep Zane clean and that’s gonna make for a long season if he’s back there.

I agree. The O-line isn’t lighting the world on fire ATM.

Hey champ,

Why? The best guy is the best guy.

I get that the players and schemes are new. My concern is more that noone stood out when playing an FCS school. The O-line didn’t play bigger or stronger than an opponent that they outweighed by 70 pounds per man? And to tweek an old quote: “If you have 5 starting RBs, then you really have none.”

We won. But that game was very uninspiring for the rest of the season.

We’re getting murdered on national TV next week fellas.

TBH there are so many variables involved with this team that can be impacting play it’s hard to tell. Could be that this game was one giant “try out” which would make the play sub optimal. Who knows. One thing is for sure they aren’t currently playing good enough to have a winning record this season IMO. I guess we will see how things play out.

I agree with this. I’m trying to give the benefit of the doubt that everyone is getting their feet underneath them at game speed. Don’t get me wrong — this was just ugly and we are not in shape for a winning season.

Maybe I was just bought into hype, but I thought the offense looked, dare I say ‘fresh’, with Hauss in. I can’t wait to see more of him. He had a few under thrown balls, but his ability to move and throw on the run was great. I’m not impressed by Zane — maybe that was because of a stale offense that looked too similar to Dunn/Bowman last year. Agreed that our OL may be a challenge for Zane too. Hicks didn’t wow me, but if he can put his body into it, think he could be a bruiser. We just have to not treat him like Ollie… don’t think he has that kind of speed. Defense wasn’t tight IMO but thought they hustled which is nice to see after the d last year quit on us.

Anyway, if we play this game next week, we’ll lose by 40 easy. Hopefully this was a tryout / refining positions kind of night.

So you don’t think coaching and the OL is an issue?

Well since Kevin Williams was drafted in 2003, it’s no slight to him because he never played for Gundy when he was a Head Coach…

Won by 3 TD’s. Felt like a loss. Gonna be a long, rough season for the Pokes if tonight is any indication. This is what happens when you bring back a head coach who lies through his teeth about QB development and refuses to fix an OL that’s been broken for 12 years. The play calling was unimaginative and poor. UTM had nearly as many rushing yards as we did. Thank goodness they had no passing game. Cowboy defense was aggressive. Ran to the ball. I like the defense a bit better than the offense. Who else thinks bringing Gundy back was a great idea?! :joy:

I said you don’t bring back people that still think it’s 2006. They don’t adapt well, and this is the product of 60 year old coaches. It’s like people in Congress that still think it’s 1985 or something :man_shrugging:.

I spoke too soon.

Hey champ,

What the hell are you talking about? I’m just saying one guy looked the best out of the people that carried.

I’m very surprised Fields didn’t get any action.

Flores looked okay, play calling sucked for him though.

Congress and the entire U$G is a lost cause. Gundy needs to ride off into the sunset after this season. Bring us GJ Kinne!

I’m saying maybe we could look better and get a feel for who really belongs on the field if Gundy was ever concerned with fixing the core issue for the running game. That’s all.

Hey champ,

The best guy is still the best guy.

The best guy won’t do you any good if the other elements aren’t put to proper use for him. OG proved that just last year, or did you not watch a game last season?

Hey champ,

Do you know what a non sequitur is?
