OSU hoops can be competitive with the right coach. There is no excuse to overpay Boynton to put us in last place. Don’t blame the seven year performance on NIL. He has had the talent but he can’t develop or strategize.
Mike Boynton Discusses OSU Basketball's Struggles in the NIL Landscape, Stresses Need to Play Better
I agree with so much of what’s being said in this thread. I think at this point, and I know Marsh is already losing minutes to Garrison but they need to play the Freshman Keller, Dow and McBride way more minutes and while I appreciate their efforts, Thompson (whose being hurt factors in) JMW and Hicklan need to play less. You have to see what you have in these other freshman. Dow is starting more and playing decent and we know he is a good shooter but I think McBride and Keller are very talented and need more minutes. We aren’t going to any postseason tourneys so play all the freshman, Small and Williams the most minutes and see where they are.
Probably doesn’t matter, half of them will transfer out anyway. I f****** hate having no hope in this once proud program. Ugh.
Agreed , with the right coach we can be as competitive as any other B12 school. Bring a good x and o coach that can recruit the right players. We pay enough for a coach to stay. Especially an alum. There is a multitude of Iba and Eddie protégés out there
Do I think our basketball NIL budget sucks? Yeah I do. Do I think our coaching sucks? Yeah I do. Get a proven guy from a mid major (the Mountain West has at least 3 great coaches plus another couple of good ones). Get a new guy with some buzz and I bet people would be more inclined to donate to basketball NIL because it is pretty evident this coaching staff is not it.
Ok, the odds of someone “dominating” one of those sports is slim. Dominating all of em……isn’t happening. No matter how much NIL you spend. Even if you did……look at OU softball, which has been dominant. Go do a little research and see what type of revenue that brings in. Choosing to spend your NIL dollars on these secondary sports as a recipe for success……with all due respect……is stupid.
“No chance at basketball”
The Final Four last year had San Diego St, Miami & FAU. I’d argue OSU has as good a chance in hoops as they do in anything else. The history of the program indicates that as well. Not real sure where you’re getting this stance from.
I was saying all of them, it was a choice amongst those sports. My point is why spend top NIL money on basketball when even if we brought in players 1-5 (which we won’t because the blue bloods will still spend the same money as us) the odds of us winning the big 12 barely changes. We need a coach the appreciates Defense, Rebounding and fighting through screens. I would love to see us have a team like Virginia and Dayton: screw the offense and just beat the hell out of every team on the Defensive side of the ball. You don’t need to spend top NIL money for hustle.
