‘My intent was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program through the years.’
Sliding out this dogshit during election night is quite the move Mike.
F him. Gundy needs to be fired for performance and this is just another reason to get him the f out of Stillwater. He can come back in a couple years when the statue is ready.
Kind of the synopsis of all of this is that this place has had tremendous success for 18 and a half years or 19 – I can’t do the math real good. But unfortunately in life, most people are weak, and as soon as things start to not go as good as what they thought, they fall apart and they panic. And then they want to point the finger and blame other people.
So in the sentence immediately preceding the “insult” he’s talking about the OSU football program. Then he makes the controversial comment. How can one say that he’s not referring to those criticizing his program? Seems like his “intent” is pretty clear. Just apologize and say I screwed up. Don’t try to justify any part of it. What a mess.
Gundy needs to show us he wants to win. We don’t need a meaningless apology, you can’t shake what you said. We will forgive you only if you make bold coaching changes and light a fire where there needs to be one. At this point you are only wins or losses. We don’t care for your ego.
Too late. You done F’d up.
Why do people have to clarify who we’re apologizing to? I’ve never understood that. “If I offended you, I apologize.” What does that even mean? Shouldn’t you just apologize? Isn’t that what our parents taught us?
Gundy puts out a super lame non-apology “apology” at 9:00 PM on election night. This is almost more insulting than his dumb comments. He was clearly forced to apologize and did it in the most half-assed way possible–much like his coaching job this season.
“My intent was not to offend any of our fans who have supported us and this program through the years.”
Too late. You just keep showing us we need to move on. You did this same thing back in 2018, and I doubt your philosophy has changed much. If you want to voice your ego and opinions then you can do it on ESPN. I want a HC right now that’s trying to find solutions to win the conference.
This reads like a kid being told by your mother to apologize to big sister. Totally insincere.
This was NOT an apology. Quit calling it that.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. I should NOT have said those things because they aren’t true.” That’s an apology.
“I’m sorry you got your feelings hurt.” Is NOT an apology.
Get him TF out of here, Chad.
Totally legit apology, Dumby.
Just an idea Gindy …
Keep you opinions to yourself and spend your time being more productive like maybe get off your arse and doing some recruiting.
“I’m sorry you were offended by me calling you losers and failures.” – Mike Gundy
Yeah, that should fix it.
.
It means he is not sincere. That his remorse does not come from within or from any sort of true sense of contrition. Anytime anyone “apologizes” with the old “if I offended anyone” crap it screams out loud that the “apology” was forced and insincere.
I am somehow even more disgusted with him after this “apology”.
Use better English “ I can’t do the Math very WELL!
Gundy’s not going to be fired. That’s the reason Gundy can say crap like that. Then making him fire someone just to go hire a unknown untested Jr college coach don’t move us closer.
There are a lot of reasons people say crap like that, but that does not mean there should not be consequences. Unfortunately, this kind of absurd baseless rhetoric is now the new normal, but it should not be so easily excused. These kinds of statements appear to be from someone that feels he immune retribution, which unfortunately is not surprising.
What message is Gundy trying to convey? If fans, students or alumni do not approve of the way he is running a college football program and serving as a role model for young men – then such people cannot pay their bills and take care of themselves and their family. Great way to address alumni and the OSU fan base that does not approve of Gundy or his decisions.
You can support the school or the program without supporting the coach. I am glad that I am not one of those loyal Gundy fans that sold out season tickets before this disasters season began. These kinds of comments ought to be a real motivator for ticket sales next year
This comes from a man that has spent most of his life in the college town where he played football and has been pampered by the University Administration that idolizes and throws money at him, as opposed to individuals that a more educated and have achieved prominence in their profession beyond being a perpetual college kid such as Gundy. Really, insult your educated and successful alumni base that they require a coach that is motivated, that is more interested in being a rancher than running a successful college football program, and does not act like some idiotic redneck?
Although Gundy apparently was forced to apologize, enough of the apologies. That is all Gundy has done at post-game press conferences for most of the past 3 years – repeatedly apologize for the team not being prepared and for being out-coached, all while earning a $7.5 million salary with obscene other perks.
Now, at age 56, Gundy tells the Big 12 media “I’ve probably done that [driven drunk] a thousand times in my life.” What college coach would tell the media and his players that it is acceptable to drive drunk and to condone such behavior? Yet, this comes as no surprise. As a player at age 20, Gundy was charged with DUI.
This also comes after 2020, when an investigation, that included talking with former and current players, found that Gundy needs invest more time into creating and maintaining personal relationships with his players.
The most recent 2024 comments ought to certainly constitute Termination by University for Just Cause in my opinion. Often, it is not always about winning. However, the direction this program is heading is not even about winning. Time to move on.
It seems like Gundy wants to get fired so he can keep his salary. If he quits, he gets nothing. Why else would he say such blatantly offensive comments?
I cant crucify him over the losing season because he has been a winner for most of his coaching career. We are not Alabama. But he needs to come to terms over the fact that he needs to replace many on his coaching staff including the offensive and defensive coordinators.
