Disagree. OU being good benefits OSU in no way whatsoever. And with OU in a separate conference and no foreseeable Bedlam game on tap to sway in-state kids, we REALLY don’t have to give a single, solitary f—k what OU!’s record is.
Half of those teams you listed haven’t won a championship yet. We have had several would’a , could’a , should,a but only 11 for a championship. We have more wins than all of them. Been the most consistent but all that goes out now with NIL. Hopefully last year was a mulligan for us, we will see going forward. Tech has supposed to be the new bully for years and they are spending like mad men but haven’t produced. I really don’t see Gundy coaching that much longer whether it’s his choice or not
There’s not a single in-state kid who has ever picked his destination due to who won Bedlam that year. That’s not how recruiting works.
If you think OU’s recruiting net they choose to cast doesn’t affect OSU……you’re wrong. OU historically gets whatever in-state kid they want. Not every, single one. But the vast majority. If the 25 offers OU gives out are focused more outside state lines……it helps OSU. To think otherwise is ignorant.
If you think a kid has NEVER made their decision based on that game, you’re kidding yourself. Why do you think people went to OU before portal or NIL? To win championships, beat Texas and put little brother back in his place.
Even taking recruiting out of it, because the two programs are in such different places in terms of conference and schedule, we still don’t have to care.
Agree to disagree. Moving on. Have a great day, man.
Getting beat by 20+ on your own field and especially 52-0 isn’t what I would classify as “competing”. Maybe if you’re a fan that thinks 6-6 is awesome. Then in your own little warped world I could see it from that perspective.
Some would say you have to get to the playoff first .
Baylor and K State proved you can win the conference twice without NIL.
“Why do you think people went to OU”…….according to you, it’s because they beat OSU in a given year. Or they beat Texas in a given year. It wasn’t because of the ability to get to the NFL, the coaching staff, the facilities, depth chart, proximity to your family…….in-state guys decided to sign in Feb based on who won Bedlam 3 months earlier. That’s as dumb as it gets.
Recruiting a kid is a process that takes place over multiple years. Many visits. Takes course over multiple seasons. So thinking that 1 game changes a recruits destination….
Everything you listed matters. It doesn’t discount what I also think matters. Bedlam isn’t Ohios St. vs Michigan, but rest assured when recruiting, it will be pointed out that Michigan has beaten Ryan Day 4 straight. “Won a Natty, but still can’t beat Michigan!” They will use it in recruiting when they can if the coaches feel it matters.
I’m still trying to figure out how any coach with championship aspirations thinks it’s a good idea to hire a D2 coach with no experience at this level. If anything, a coach with any kind of COMMON SENSE should know that’s not a good strategy. He barely gets to the CCG game and gets his azz waxed because his defense ranks 125th in the nation.
Maybe it’s just me. I think I remember Gundy being half a yard away from winning a second conference title with the best defense he ever had at OSU with a subpar offense. If memory serves me right, he hired Dunn as well . Then it’s the “We don’t have NIL money” excuse. Well what about the times before NIL? When Texas sucked and OU was down from 2011-2014?
You can’t sit here and ride both sides of the fence while trying to call people out. I’m not so sure hiring two fired coordinators and signing players from Piss State is the path to a Big 12 title. Maybe Gundy proves me wrong. I’d say the last 13 years of evidence probably points more towards my prediction though.
No kid has made a decision to go to a school based on who won Bedlam 3 months before he signed.
No kid has made a decision to go to a school based on who won the Bama-Auburn game 3 months before he signed.
No kid has made a decision to go to a school based on who won the Ohio St-Mich game 3 months before he signed
No kid has made a decision to go to a school based on who won the INSERT GAME HERE game 3 months before he signed
Anyone who thinks a singular game makes a kid decide where to spend his next 3-4 years clearly has no idea how recruiting truly works. I went thru it as a player & as a Dad. Not on the level of a 5 star football recruit who could pick his destination, but enough to where both me & my son had choices. Not one time did I ask the question of “well who won between Nebraska & Texas Tech last year? My son didn’t ask who won between Kansas & Kansas St. It doesn’t happen
You still hanging with Briles and his thugs I see
Take them and stick’em where you want. You just want an argument, I’m not arguing with someone as ignorant as you
No one but Arizona St has made the playoffs
TCU did with a tandem close to Weeden and Blackmon
You never add anything positive. Never , which is the reason I wish PFB would ban your ignorant chit
I’m going to disagree with it takes many visits for a kid to go to OU Ketchup, they are a BB , most grow up wanting to go there because of their history. Oklahoma especially and some in Texas. Now you go nationwide you have to recruit a kid
It’s not an argument when you’re wrong. Otherwise, provide me with some kind of source since you claim to know it all .
We’ve had a 12 team playoff for one season. Typically, when you return 19 starters, and claim to have the top coach in the league. Many would think you would be competing for that playoff spot. Not going winless in the conference. I’ll say it again. Gotta make the playoff first.
I’m not exactly sure what you’re saying here? Are you saying there are kids that sign with OU or any other school that have only visited once? Thsts just not how it works. All schools have JR days. All have camps that particular kids get invited to when they’re Soph’s. Kids have 3 official visits as a Sr. Kids get tickets on weekend games. Why would a kid that’s a lifelong fan, that’s good enough be a scholarship offer……ONLY visit 1 time? That makes no sense. The only exception to that is a kid like Jett Nui that was the OSU commit. He was from Utah, but once OU hired Ben Arbuckle as the OC, he signed with OU without ever having set foot on campus. But that wasn’t because he was an OU fan. It was because of his relationship with Arbuckle. That’s the exception to the rule.
Come on Ketchup I’m talking about most of the D1 prospects that have grown up being sooner fans all their life. It’s a fact they have a majority of Oklahoma fans So if they are they will sign without even a visit. Course I’m sure they have been there several times growing up
Same with a bunch of Texas HS kids living within a couple hours drive from home. Close enough that family can come to most games.
Now that money has entered the equation will that make a difference ? I don’t think so since OU has resources
I don’t think Niu ever sees the field. Just my opinion though, I wasn’t high on him when he was here
Same old worn out drivel you post everyday
Warped thinking, hate Gundy and the school
Or you could just make it easy on yourself and post your source. You won’t though, because you don’t have one. You just make up what you want to believe.
Yeah, respectfully……that’s just not how it works. Kids interact, visit, attend, these programs/campuses on multiple occasions. You get treated like royalty. They roll out the red carpet. You don’t fit all of what a program wants you to see into 1 visit. You seem like a decent poster on here……but recruits making 1 trip to the university they plan on attending for the next 4 years……is not how it works.
I don’t disagree on Niu. I think he knows it’ll be a longshot too. But if you’re gonna redshirt, doing it while at a blueblood in the SEC is not a bad idea. But you said on regards to Niu " I wasnt high on him when he was here". He was never at OSU. He was just a verbal commit. Im curious though why he signed with OU? Im guessing he didnt get the memo of who won Bedlam
I could not agree more. I do not think that many coaches could have won as many games here at OSU than Gundy. We are not the other OSU in Ohio. We have to compete with Texas, LSU, and OU for players. We are a second tier team who occasionally makes it to the top.
