Nebraska today did something about their offense by hiring Dana Holgerson as consultant. Gundy could have done the same move and then promoted him to OC so easily. Unless those guys burned their bridges?

Holgerson doesn’t want to work for Gundy ever again. He didn’t like him then, and he doesn’t like him now. It’s tough to get good coordinators when your HC is egotistical and and runs every good thing off from Stillwater.

Gundy doesn’t need to say much. The fact that any decent coordinator he gets moves along rather quickly, and the fact he keeps retaining clowns on his coaching staff nobody else will come after tells me everything I need to know:
- OC with one top 50 offense in five seasons
- DC with a historically bad defense that gets worse
- DL coach that not even Indiana wanted any longer
- A 7th year QB with “experience” but still sucks and throws off his back foot
- A QB coach that can’t develop Quarterbacks
- Returns the most starters in the conference and can’t win a conference game
- His disciple (Yurcich) didn’t even last three years at Penn State before being chit canned
I’d suggest you make a note, and do what most reasonable and rational people do. Pay attention to both what he SAYS and what he DOES. It like the old saying goes “Actions speak louder than words”. His actions so far have been to blame everyone else for his failure this season rather than his outdated concepts. Which is why no experienced P4 coordinator hangs around him for too long.

I write novels because you obviously don’t understand the entirety of the situation. Gundy is getting past his prime. The same thing happened with Gary Patterson. Gundy is stuck in 2006, and he needs to realize a lots changed since then. Why would I care to see another year if he’s changed? I don’t get it. Why should I have to set back and watch him continue to do less with more while he makes more money every single year?
That’s what you refuse to acknowledge. I can agree there are years he does more with less, but that’s called inconsistency. 2013, 2017, and 2024 he still can’t find a way to finish in the top 2 of the conference when he returns a majority of his players. It’s also not like Texas was any good either. There’s literally no excuse.
The difference between you and I is that you want to save Gundy, and I want the OSU football program to be saved. The CFP has been extended to 12 teams, and the conference has become weaker. This isn’t exactly the time to start sucking. I’ve also never said anything about buying out Gundy. I think both Dunn and Nardo should be fired. If he wants to be a CEO then he should act like a real one, and not some corporate elitist that thinks he should get raises for failure. A step in the right direction would be admitting you’re not as good as you think you are. I think is coaching staff reflected that this season.
Holgy and Monk might not be great head coaches, but they’re certainly better coordinators than Dunn. Holgy was just hired as a consultant and Monk is the OC at the NFL level. You know it’s bad when people on here can easily figure out what Dunn is going to do. That’s not someone worthy of making a million bucks a year. If we can figure it out, so can D1 coaches.
I didn’t say Holgy didn’t get along with Gundy from personal perspective. You can get along with your neighbor, but that doesn’t mean you guys work well together either. There’s a reason Holgy only spent one year there, and Monk only two years there.

From a work related standpoint no. There are some people I don’t mind hanging around every once in a while, but I know I could never work with them. I think you’re missing the entire point here. People doing a job, and are actually good at it, don’t like to be micromanaged all the time. That’s why some people leave.
Yes, Gundy thinks he’s better than he actually is. This season is a prime example of that. Dead last in the conference with no true coordinator to help him win.
I never said anything about firing him. He could always retire, or he could hire proven coordinators that’ll help him get a little closer to the promised land. Because he’s not doing it on his own. I’m not stupid enough to think OSU is going to pay him out. You underestimate my intelligence, and never improve your own.

If he fires Dickey or Rattay, and largely holds onto the current staff, then that’s not going to solve the entirety of the situation. Just remember HE was the one that hired these people.
