Oklahoma State Baseball Picked Third in Preseason Big 12 Poll

Originally published at: Oklahoma State Baseball Picked Third in Preseason Big 12 Poll

OSU has finished in the top two of the league seven times in 10 seasons under Josh Holliday.

Looks like we picked up nothing from the new school. We only have 2 players no wonder we are only ranked in one poll

I don’t remember where I read it , some blog but it said Texas has two starting pitchers they are paying 1 million apiece :flushed:

As usual, I won’t be worried about our hitting with big production and established guys like Wulfert, Benge, Meola, Schubert, Brueggemman returning along with experienced guys like Ehrhard (Freshman all big 12 team in 2022, plagued by injuries last year) and Crull. Plus adding quality bats in Max Galvin, the freshman from Atoka, Kollin Ritchie and National Champion from Mississippi State, Forsythe; Our pitching once again will be the determining factor if we can get back to a Super and ultimately Omaha. I think we’ll finish top 2 or 3 again so I think the ranking is correct. Still looking forward to it. Go Pokes!!

Additionally, I look for Daugherty and Sylvester to make jumps and look out for this Freshman from Louisiana, Donovan LaSalle. LA POY after hit 10 homers and 43 RBI, while stealing 33 as a senior at Barbe HS in Lake Charles, which play in the highest classification in the state and won 21’ and 23’ state championships. He was also Drafted in 19th round by KC. Again, these are all hitters, which is why I still think we have a good shot at the crown but ultimately the pitching has to step up.

I enjoy your knowledge of the team but do we have any high end pitchers ? I’m sure we do but they are just question marks now ?
It gets old seeing us flame out in a regional at home no less

Yea its are pitching we are worried about

Unfortunately, not really. Some decent HS prospects, the best in my opinion being Weston Rouse from Ft Gibson. Most of the ones we recruited have great numbers of course but it’s hard to pick out who will show up and get innings for us as Freshman. It’s never good relying on FR arms haha but we might have to cuz the best returning pitcher we have is Bogusz and he only threw 17 innings a year ago due to injury but looked good. We got this kid from High Point named Sam Garcia but he had an over 7 ERA last year. Yikes. Great Sophomore year where he was 5-4 with an under 2 ERA but was 1-8 last year. So coach Walton will have another tough year I think. I think this could be his last season.

That’ has been the misery of the last few teams since our last CWS … I would think Walton could recruit really tough pitchers, not projects but starters. Did we only get the one this year ?

no we got a few “on paper” talented arms but when you jump up to big12 play from HS its really tough. I think Rouse is the most talented but Kyle Bade from Plano, Blake Julius from Mansfield in Texas could be good and then Tate Smith from Colorado. I would say Bade and Julius play better competition in Texas than Smith did so his numbers could be inflated. Eaton HS, where he is from is only 3A and Colorado isn’t a deep hs sports state. Time will tell, Walton might have a little magic in him. My gut says we are gonna have to rely on the guys we had last year to get some improvement or we’ll be ousted in the regional again. The offense is good enough again to get us to a regional, again.
