Oklahoma State Basketball Picked 14th in Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

The new-look Cowboys were ahead of only two teams.

Honestly, it’s not surprising. As I’ve said previously, the only thing I want to see this first year is that this program is moving in the right direction and better days are ahead.

Sad but true. Could be a bottom feeder for years to come, especially because of play for pay. Tough way for a coach to begin at a new school.

I have zero expectations so anything above last is a win for me. I’m a little surprised they have any returning players.

I wish Coach Lutz and his team the best and truly hope Coach Lutz can restore OSU basketball to its days of glory, pre-Holder.

Holder’s legacy:
1). Raised a lot of facility money sucking up
2). Narcissist butt
3). Destroyed OSU basketball

If he’s a great coach he might leave for more money but that’s fine we keep trying to get better. Just looking for a good run and let’s see how it goes from there. That’s how it works. You don’t sit on a coach because he has just a winning record snd can’t get passed that bar. It’s professional sports now ladies and gentlemen. What have you done for me lately.

Holder had his warts but Im not sure I’d describe him as the destroyer of OSU basketball. Some famous alum getting a DUI which turned the program over to his Oxy-addicted son is what started the death spiral for OSU basketball and unfortunately Holder simply couldn’t pull us out of the tailspin.

The downfall of OSU hoops had several steps.

  1. The plane crash was the beginning. An unfathomable tragedy that led to Eddie’s DUI. Honestly, that should’ve forfeited his right to name Sean as successor.
  2. Sean was not a good HC. Great assistant, terrible HC. Personality never fit the role. Then, he gets busted too. Thus, Holder wanted to go entirely away from the Sutton’s and their coaching tree.
  3. Ford’s contract. It severely tied OSU’s hands. Season-ticket holders began to revolt. GIA hasn’t been the same since.
  4. Holder not paying Underwood. Call him a snake if you want (and what he did was truly awful), but he had already started the turnaround and could’ve kept the train on the tracks.
  5. Boynton probably was allowed to stay too long. He’s an amazing human being, he brought in Cade, the NCAA upheld the ban while dragging their feet, and he owned OU. Those 4 things helped keep him in Stilly maybe a year or two past what was good for the program. To add to this, COVID robbed GIA of the magic of Cade’s one season. I never felt like Boynton got a truly fair shot, but he was also incredibly limited in running offense and team-building. His two biggest weaknesses.

I just want the Lutz era to be different than the past two decades. OSU has been under so many dark clouds for so long. It’s time for some hope and sunshine. I think that’s where most of us are at with this deal.

OSU has had Iba and Sutton. Two coaches don’t make a basketball school. It’s a wrestling school maybe golf and cross country. That’s it.

That’s really good analysis.

Thanks. Wish I got paid for it. :100:

Bama has had Bear and Saban. Two coaches don’t make a football school. By your own logic.

I want Lutz to succeed. However, this year is going to be a bust. I was just going over the current roster, and scoring is going to be hard for this team. If you look at the shooting percentages of all the new players that have been brought in, it is terrible. Lutz has signed some good players for next year and I suspect that it will be a 3 year project to turn the team around if that is even possible given the transfer portal.

Tough times ahead for the Cowboys. It is going to be a painful season. I am surprised that we were not picked last. I suspect that if anyone has a breakout season that they will leave via the portal.

If the players are well coached, play smart and leave it on the floor, I will be happy.
I am looking forward to seeing what kind of team Lutz puts on the floor. I agree we will be limited but expect the talent level to increase over time. Tough conference, interesting to see what the upside is.

This up coming season will all be about our defense. Our offense will be non existant. We will be a run and gun team with poor shooting percentage as there is not one reliable shooter on the team. Maybe 1 or 2 players will suprise us and step up.
