The Cowboys are back out of the polls.
It looks like 8-4 is the ceiling for this year with 7-5 being more likely. That is a big improvement from the last two years. Hello Pop Tarts Bowl. If Mestemaker and Hawkins come back and Young can learn to control his mouth, we should be looking at a Big 12 contender next year.
Not if we decide to keep replicating West Virginia’s defense.
Mestemaker should not come back. There is zero benefit to that.
I’m hoping EM goes shopping in the portal for a boatload of new defensive starters.
There is a ton of benefit to him. He has only played against AAC and Big 12 defenses. He will be overwhelmed playing in the NFL against top-quality defenses and experienced defensive coordinators.
This line of reasoning is silly. Mahomes played even worse Big XII defenses and was the best QB in the league for several years (maybe not anymore). Josh Allen played in the Mountain West and probably is the best QB in the league. The best thing a QB can do is sit for a season and learn the pro game. Playing college does not prepare you for the NFL.
As much as I disagree with HeyChump on many things. I think he’s correct on this one. I think there’s about an 85% chance Drew isn’t coming back.
The only way I could possibly see him coming back is if we offer him more NIL, an average defense, and he convinces the core of his offense to stay if they have any eligibility left. There’s a very small chance that happens.
Also, the salary for a rookie from draft pick 1-10 is anywhere from 55 mil to 30 mil over 4 years. Right now Drew is sitting T #3 on a mock draft. So he basically has no solid reason for returning. Then again, I don’t know the dude personally.
