The Cowboys are losing a guard with starting experience.

Probably doesnā€™t like our O-line coachā€¦who BTW, isnā€™t he supposed to be retiring soon? If he get let go by Arkansas, Gundy would do well and hire Sam Pittman.

Man I had such high hopes for the guy, what would redemption look like for him ?

Hate to see it midseason like this and it scares me that this will become a trend in the sport. I do find it interesting that he hasnā€™t played a snap, and its not like the O-Line has been some kind of juggernaut thus far this year. So heā€™s clearly in the doghouse, and not just ā€˜behind better playersā€™. Good luck to him.

Sam Pittman wonā€™t fall back to an O-Line coach. If you want Pittman, its got to be for Dunnā€™s job. For the record, Iā€™d take Pittman over Dunn, but I donā€™t think Pittman is the guy I would want as our OC.

As for Dickeyā€™s retirement, I somehow doubt it. Heā€™s clearly got compromising pictures of someone in the administration, as its another year and another mediocre O-line and zero accountability. Why retire when you have that kind of gig.

Iā€™m not an O Line expert (but I did play D Line in college), and I always thought Brooks looked good. But, I trust that the coaches (or at least Gundy) have their reasons for not starting him and it sounds like he let the coaches know early he wanted a redshirt year. Like all of these kids making big decisions for their lives I wish him the best.

It stinks and we have been sore on the o line for over a decade. But all we can do is play the hand we are dealt . Maybe he started the year thinking one way but now that we are a month into he heā€™s changed his mind. Heā€™s allowed to, itā€™s his body, his time. Itā€™s still a bummer though. Good luck to
To him.

Your last comment is the kind that I canā€™t stand. The offensive line is far from mediocre and hasnā€™t been for quite some time. Last year it gave up less than 1 sack per game. It has given up 0 so far this year. Last year, it produced the nationā€™s leading rusher. Yes, the line has struggled in the run game this yearā€“but, that is largely because of Dunnā€™s schemes and play calling. Even if it got better push, like it should, the line would still struggle in the run game because teams are stacking the box and outnumbering the Cowboys. That will continue to be the case as long as Dunn only calls zone run plays between the tackles out of one-back. Overall, though, the line is very capable. It just needs its offensive coordinator to also be capable.

I think you are misconstruing my point into criticism of the O-line players. I completely agree with you that Dunn and Dickey are the problem. If you canā€™t figure out how to run block with an O-line room that had over 200 games played worth of experience, then its clearly a coaching problem. That said, the sacks number is kind of meh to me. We run an RPO offense that gets the ball out of the QBs hand as quickly as possible and we do it with a Doak Walker winning running back. We shouldnt be giving up many sacks in that kind of offense. But the running game has been abysmal even against undersized and outmanned opponents like SDSU and Tulsa. Weā€™re not the first team to ever play against an 8 man box. Other teams can block it up and still have successes, and yet somehow we canā€™t.

You are thinking in the right direction. While the O line could do some things better a lot of the problems are with how other players and the coaches are operating, TEā€™s, FB,s even the RBā€™s need adjustments plus the coaching schemes are not optimal. Iā€™m guessing a lot of little things need to get corrected in order to see improvement. Hopefully they can get there before this weekend. Go Pokes!

Yea it is meh until it isnā€™t. Probably taking something for granted that one shouldnā€™t.

What makes you think Pittman can call plays?

I LOLā€™ed at this part, reminds me of most of our Di$trict of Corruption politicians via black ops like Epsteinā€™s and P. Fruityā€™s:

That assumes he wanted to be redshirted but as soon as Gundy announced he would guess who said they were going to the portal. I donā€™t think he wanted that at allā€¦someone canā€™t read the room, not talking about you!

Have you ever thought that affects schemes and play calling cause we cannot run block? I donā€™t think the run blocking last season was all that great either, average at best. We got the O-linemen so close to each other their rubbing elbows.

At the very least heā€™d figure out how to scheme WITH our OL and not AGAINST our OL.

Weā€™re not even facing an 8 man box. More often than not weā€™re facing 5 or 6. For me itā€™s more of the scheme not fitting. Gundy even said it ā€œthey put an extra man in the boxā€. Heā€™s not saying they put multiple players in the box.

We need to run some trap or outside zone. If a defense is going to be aggressive in stopping the run then you need to either seal the interior of the defense off or use a TE to pick up a linebacker or upcoming safety. One thing Ollie is great at doing is making cutbacks. Heā€™s not getting the time or space to do either one.

If you want to beat the other team throwing the ball then so be it. Just remember youā€™re relying on Bowman to basically be another Brandon Weeden to make that happen. I donā€™t know why the hell it takes guys making six figures until a third of the season is completed to finally figure it out.
