Oklahoma State's Rush Defense Is Historically Bad

OSU is giving up 5.9 yards a carry – the most from an OSU team since 1940.

Ummmm…. Didn’t HCMG fire the DL coach from last season and hire a new DL coach? Ostensibly for poor DL performance?

(yes, that’s rhetorical question)

Greg Richmond wound up at Sam Houston. Wonder how they’re doing…

This is how good Gundy has been with his hires as of recent.

  • Dunn: Only one top 50 offense in five seasons.

  • Nardo: Defense was 125th last season. Right now it’s 132nd (second to last in the nation).

  • Paul Randolph: Defensive Line can’t stop a nose bleed and making history as the worst DL at OSU.

He fired Greg Richmond (who sent guys to the NFL) and hired Paul Randolph from Indiana. Guess which team in college football has the #1 rush defense currently??? Yep, that would be Indiana. They were more than happy to let Paul Randolph pack his stuff and head to Stillwater.

Sam Houston ranks 42nd in rush defense. I’d say that’s a little better than 132nd.

Nardo and Randolph both need to go.
If Gundy was smart, he’d fire Nardo now - defense can’t get any worse and at least he’d been seen as doing something to try and salvage the bowl record, as opposed to right now where he seems to be doing nothing. He’s had enough success at OSU to have one bad year, shrug it off to injuries and get one more year. But not without some changes. I wouldn’t recommend wholesale changes on both sides of the ball in one year though.

I disagree. Recommending a complete overhaul towards building to actually contend for your conference shows you’re serious about actually winning the conference. We haven’t with Dunn on staff, and we won’t while he’s still on the staff. Gundy requires at least one excellent coordinator just to get him close to winning the conference. He has neither one.
