High school wrestling in Texas will not be relevant unless U. of Texas some day adds wrestling as a sport. I don’t see that happening, unfortunately.
But Chad is so right on. oSu has done a horrible job of promoting it’s program, considering its great tradition. I told that to my former oSu classmate, Mike Holder, and I also gave him a suggestion of who to bring in as a consultant to learn how to market the program on a big scale. Mike’s response to that was to assure me that he planned to do something for the wrestling program, meaning a new building as a wrestling center. My thinking is that will not happen until the program gets back to the top, where it needs to remain, instead of steadily slipping downward as it has been. I am now going to give the name of the same person to Chad, and we will see if plants any seeds.
Big wrestling fan here. Dabbled in it in HS and of course immersed my self as a fan while a student at OSU and still so today. It’s a fantastic sport but unfortunately if you haven’t done it some of he nuances are hard to identify with. Really like Chad’s plan here. Kudos to him for recognizing the importance of this sport to OSU and it’s history.
Good strategy. But we can’t go down there and lose every year.
So bottom line, we have to get higher caliber recruits. Development in the room can only achieve a certain amount.
