Only K-State was more efficient.
This is exactly what I’ve been saying. You want to heap all the blame on Gundy, but he doesn’t get the financial infrastructure and support he needs. You want him to win recruiting battles, give him money to win uphill battles.
I can’t argue with the need for more money. Hopefully the new admin can get the big donations to flow.
It’s weird that now Chad is here we are see a ton of higher recruits showing up in stillwater to visit.
I was thinking about that as well. I don’t know if budget info in the Weiberg Era is out yet, but I’d bet our spending is up. That’s awesome if true.
People want to look at the Clemson success story as someone who has disrupted traditional blue bloods and possibly become one, and then you look at what they spend on their program and it is… quite robust. They spend like the blue bloods.
Heard RA this morning saying that is a very real strength of Dr Schrum. She gets folks excited about being willing to invest the money to make it all work. I’d bet Chad is similar.
I know I read that out AB is going to double now …… a little over 100 million
If Chad convinces someone to give more than t Boone, I be very impressed. Heck if he finds 5 guys who would give as much together then impressive.
No one can match Boone. I’ll try to find the donor list.
- Boone 6.1 mil
- Malone and Amy Mitchell
Doesn’t show any amount on the page I found other than Boone. To put it in perspective of how far ahead he is, Ross and Billie McKnight ranked 11th.
Yeah, but Holder spread funds around building golf courses and baseball stadiums…
All separate donations.
You can’t talk about ar’s buddy holder, without him TBP never would’ve never thought about donating anything in his mind , Karsten creek sure has improved over that timeline.
How is it Joey hasn’t commented about Gundy here?
Good question. I find him answering less and less questions. He sure couldn’t find answer on this article
Im not saying anyone on this thread has specifically done this, but hoping/expecting OSU to be capable of doing what Clemson has is an unreal expectation in my opinion. There are 2 factors that Clemson has that OSU does not. 1) Location. Clemson is within 2hrs of Atlanta, which is a recruiting hotbed. They are also as close to much of Florida, Louisiana and all those SEC states in between as OSU is to Houston. Hey I love Stillwater. But its a lot tougher place to recruit to than Clemson, SC. 2) OSU’s biggest problem is OU located down the street. Clemson doesnt have to fight an in-state traditional powerhouse. I know OU is not Bama. I know OU hasnt won a Nat Title since 2000.
That’s really irrelevant for two reasons:
1.) Time and effort are limited resources. If he’s off securing funds for golf courses, then he’s not spending that time securing funds for football. He chooses the building projects he wants to push and promote.
2.) It’s all money. He could have requested that donation money from those same people go to football. Most of them would probably do it if the vision was presented and how it would help the school. Our golf course is awesome, but it comes at the expense of having an underfunded football team.
This is true. However, spending half as much as Clemson is only compounding pur disadvantages. I get there are going to be diminishing returns and that spending as much as Alabama isn’t going to give us the same results as Alabama, but we could stand to up our budget if we want to have a greater chance of breaking into their arena every once in a while.
I agree in theory. I just think that using Alabama in any of these comparisons is a fools errand. The budgets are formulated based on income. My guess is that OSU is spending what they can(ish) on football? I dont claim to know the detailed budgets at any of these places, but I do trust that the powers that were (Holder) and the powers that are (Weiberg) are smart enough to realize that the bellcow is Football. You better feed that monster if you want it to produce. Thats why I tend to snicker as an OU fan at the OSU people who get all in a frenzy over the need for a Wrestling venue or whatever. OU gymnastics is pretty successful. Without looking, I assume its on par recently with OSU wrestling. Yet you never, ever hear anyone in Norman clamoring to “waste” money on gymnastics because while its cool and neat…it does nothing but take away money from the sport that funds the rest of the athletics dept. I kind of went on a tangent there, but im stuck in Petty TX for the afternoon
I think it’s demonstrably untrue that we’re spending our money on the bell cow.
