Dude Oregon finished 22. That is utahs only ranked opponent win. Oregon was one step from not being ranked. The same year we beat 3 top 10 final poll.
Even if you want to count the 1 per year. Its not a tuff league when utah won. Byu beat the same usc. Utah lost to 2 g5 one of the title runs. Everything you say against gundy you let slide when trying to defend other teams. Get a grip.
WellâŚâŚif youâre going to claim you win and you actually have trophies to back up your biggest wins. Thatâs how you build a dynasty. Not by catching an abundance of smaller fish and never being able to reel in the bigger ones except maybe every 12-15 years.
Iâm willing to let some stuff slide if Gundy wins a conference title. The problem is he never does. The other problem is we have fans that also consistently make excuses for failure. If thatâs the way itâs going to be. Then weâve already settled in our minds that championships donât matter, and that the coach is the only thing that does. Thatâs not how big time football programs are built. Thereâs always an excuse for everything .
No one that knows football makes excuses for Gundy Not I or Robert make excuses because a running back doesnât know his strength I didnât make excuses last year the first 4 games. We looked pathetic the first 3
So take your excuses bill and take them to jug
We are smart enough to see what the match ups are. Last year did you expect us to beat Texas ? I had hopes but realistically no. They lost a lot last year. Letâs see if they reload or fold Their DL is gone I think.
Yep. If Gundy in some way wouldâve beaten Texas and won the conference you wouldnât see me bringing up our past blunders. Why is this so difficult for you guys to understand? You need to win the conference and be consistent if you want to build a national brand. Always being runner-up, or worse, while getting embarrassed on TV by lesser programs doesnât cut it. Why do you think ND gets made fun of all the time? 0-12 in major bowl games since 1998.
OG = Arizona State- 9 rushes for 53 yards= 5.8 yards per rush
The strength was already identified. Consistent positive yardage, and then only three rushes the very next game. Thatâs not on OG. Thatâs on the coaches piss poor game planning. Iâll give you credit though. At least you didnât disappear for almost a month after that loss like Robert did.
I didnât expect us to beat Texas. However, I didnât expect us to get blown out of the water by South Bama and UCF either. If you keep proving to me you can find ways to lose big to lesser teams in eventually not going to trust whatever consistency you claim to have.
Tulsa 16-7 (2020)
Missouri State 23-16 (2021)
Tulsa 28-23 (2021)
Boise State 21-20 (2021)
Central Michigan 58-44 (2022)
Central Arkansas 27-13 (2023)
South Bama 7-33 (2023)
The average margin of victory over G5 teams and FCS schools is 8.3 points. Thatâs just barely over a touchdown. If I subtract our loss to South Bama it drops to 3.4 points. Thatâs pathetic and shouldnât be acceptable at all. We need to stop playing down to the level of the completion and just come out punching teams in the face.
About the only game I can give them an excuse for his Boise State with the tremendous amount of injuries they had. Other than that, Dunn needs to get his @55 in gear. Start the season by playing the best players you have. Not limiting their touches!!!
I have no idea why you posted those non conference games Gundy takes non conference as learning about his team, players that want to compete.
No you canât give excuses for injuries. You said it first despite out slowwwww start the offensive wound up in the top 30 He can do better though. Everyone can do better
If youâre serious about winning a conference title or getting to the CFP then you better learn about your team in the spring and fall practice. It doesnât take a 33-7 drubbing by G5 teams to figure it out.
He probably does take non con like that . Probably to get away from the injuries weâd sustain during summer practice . I remember he was getting away from too much contact for awhile as it thinned us out and bit us in the hass.
I think heâs moved on from that due to lack of tackling .
And also bc weâre now deeper so we have some luxury of personnel .
It was obvious last season we werenât good enough to do that. We are only up 13-7 against Central Arkansas going into the 4th. Luckily for us Arizona State was awful. The icing on the cake was the 33-7 drubbing at home to South Bama.
One would figure after the first game, and being down against Arizona State for a little while we probably should play our best players against a Sunbelt team that won 10 games the season before. Nope!!!
The fact is outside MAYBE two or three years under Gundy we have never been deep enough to play our backups against these type of schools and get away with it. Hell!!! Even with Rudolph, Carson, Hill, and Washington on the team in 2016 we still lost to Central Michigan.
In 2022, we literally blew a 36 point lead against Central Michigan in the 3rd quarter and won by 14. That should tell you what the quality of our depth has been after 2021. Not exactly sure where you see this luxury of depth anywhere.
Before last season we had a mass exodus so we were reeling for some depth . Kinda had to be conservative .
And weâve had a that happen a few times . When gundy stepped in he had to get rid of a bunch of riff raff from Les miles .
After we got some momentum going and won the fiesta bowl we had the sports illustrated which strung us out for a few years .
Itâs been a hard dance that weâve had to sway back and forth too . Two steps forward and a kick in the nuts .
And then you also just have to go through the growing pains of a first time head coach at a small state school. The changing landscape of college athletics. The coach poaching and the Mis hires that can result . Thereâs the recruiting bust that also comes from the coaching carousel. Itâs a rough gig .
Whereâs the line between patience and complacency ? I remember scratching my head at Wozniak after a couple years . Havenât had to do that .
I think maybe you missed my point. We found out after the first game we couldnât be conservative. 13-7 going into the last quarter of the game against an FCS team that barely cracks the top 25 on that level.
Most of the time we seem complacent in the first four games of the season. That seems to be a tendency with us. Iâm just wondering at what point in time do we actually come out ready to play like we want to blow the doors off the other team? Arizona 2012, WV 2013, CM 2015, CM 2016, Tech 2018, Tulsa 2020, Missouri State 2021, Tulsa 2021, South Bama 2023.
Weâre 4-5 in the games I just listed. Those are all within the first four games of each season. We donât have the time to figure out what kind of team we have in the first few games of the season. Thatâs supposed to be identified before the season starts.
Also, the coaches at OSU are well compensated more than most in the current conference. If you want the program to pay you well then prove to me it doesnât take disaster or a near heart attack against those kinds of teams before figuring it out.
After all, itâs not like weâre playing Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, or any team like that in the first few games. Weâre literally playing an FCS, G5, and typically a bottom dweller P4 team in the first three or four games of the season.
You see , right here sheâs you donât know enough about football to even say coach. How the hell do you really know what you have until you play someone ? Answer that ? We use preseason to see what we have , who can play and build a little depth. Iâve never heard something with the conspiracy theories you have about Gundy. You have to be the biggest buffoon ever Please go somewhere else, anywhere else that can stomach you
It doesnât take a genius to figure out that OG and Brennan Presley are your best players, and that if you struggled in the first game like they did then you donât have the depth you thought you did. Do you not pay any attention to the games at all?
You donât create a game plan where you give your two best players a combined 7 touches in the third game of the season. Actually, not even the first game of the season. The HC and OC are getting paid seven figures to beat these type of teams without a sweat. Thatâs clearly not been happening.
Also, thereâs no excuses for this season. Gundy and his crew know what they have now. Stop playing stupid shenanigans in the first three games of the season and just go win. Heâs not getting paid as the 12th highest paid coach in the country to figure out how to play down to the level of the competition.
