It’s just the sixth time that at least three Cowboys went so early in the draft.
Crazy IMO at least that Bodendorf went after Davis and Youngerman, but just goes to show MLB puts a ton of importance on velo instead of getting outs.
The draft was weird this year. The Nationals not taking Holliday shocked me (especially when they went with a fielder after all).
Wild cause nobody had Willits going that high, but personally, although his dad is a zerOU coach, I think it’s cool two Okie HS kids went that early. I was hoping Ethan would get taken earlier or later, didn’t want to see him going to the Rockies. He might though be able to get to the Majors sooner than later as bad as they are. This draft reminded me of 2011 when Bundy, Bradley and Fulmer (all pitchers, although both Bundy and Bradley could rake, esp Bundy, maybe Fulmer too, but never saw him play) all went in the first. Probably the first time two Okie kids hit 100 mph in HS, but I could be wrong on that.
My guess is everyone know Ethan will end up on one of the corners and they felt like they needed a true SS, but then why not trade down. I actually like Ethan in CO for the exact reason you stated: should be able to move up very easily. Also, that thin air doesn’t hurt (once he gets there).
Did you see all the shortstops that went in the first round? 15! 7 in the second. I don’t remember that every happening.
That seems to be the new norm. Have great hitters play SS (no matter how big they are). I think it has to do more with everyone hitting the long ball rather than for average and steals.
Yes, a lot of shortstops get converted at higher levels, usually to second cause don’t have the range and/or throwing arm is not quite strong enough, or third or OF. A lot of scouts think Holliday will be moved to third.
I would put money on he’s moved to third almost immediately. I can’t wait to see him out on size (those Holliday genes are good). Jackson has put on some really good size quickly.
