‘If you’re not resourced at at least this level, you probably have a very slim chance of making the NCAA Tournament.’
“Longer and more skilled”
Yet, couldn’t beat New Mexico with an estimated roster worth 3 mil total.
15 to 17 million? Wow. I mean how many on a roster 15? So they are averaging 1 million a man….that’s mind blowing.
That was my first thought as well. It’s an even bigger indictment of Lutz.
After seeing these numbers yesterday I think I’m revising my thoughts about Lutz potentially getting another year is he doesn’t make the tournament. With this kind of money I think he’s fired for missing it. Especially with it being expanded this year.
Yup. Sad state of affairs these days in college sports. Costs are only going up, it will eventually kill the minor sports as most schools will lose money every year if they want to try to stay competitive in CBB and CFB.
Wow. How much do our national championship contending wrestlers get?
And that’s still middle of the pack when it comes to money spent. Well, this is what it is. And, yes, we must make the tournament this year.
Also, guys, chill with the overreactions over a GD exhibition. Already making “indictments” and expecting the worst before the season starts because of a glorified practice against a tournament team. You same folks would’ve said “it’s just an exhibition, let’s see what happens once the season starts” had we won that game, so stop the BS.
My question is this: Is the 15M (or so) being spent this year a one-off? Because that seems like a large number to try to sustain year over year. Also, and this has annoyed me a ton with the NIL reporting…was that a 1 year spend? Or this year’s spend on multi-year deals. ESPN was talking about how Mestemaker has a $7M deal (for example), but its supposedly a 2 year deal, so that’s really only $3.5M.
Tournament or bust
Most of the 15-17 million has to be NIL money as the school can only allot $22 million to its entire student athlete body including football. Schools in the SEC andB10 are receiving $75 million dollar tv paychecks. Schools like Stanford, who have 34 varsity sports and have a middling ACC payout will feel the burden. OSU, which has 16 varsity sports is probably middle of the road. But yeah, it’s going be challenging in the future.
Money is all it takes now. Need to dig up Boone.
We can’t just keep letting teams score 90 ppg and expect to win. They tried that last season and it only worked half the time. That’s only going to work if your players are shooting consistently well in every game. Which we know is impossible. I know New Mexico is a good MW team, but we’re supposedly in maybe the strongest conference in the country. We can’t be giving up 100 points to a New Mexico and expect to be .500 in the meat grinder Big 12.
Nobody watches wrestling nationwide.
