Taylor was a two-time Dan Hodge Trophy winner.

I’m really at a loss of words on this one. Catching me completely off guard.

Same. I thought Coleman being announced was just going to be a formality. I’m stunned but excited about this hire. I really hope Coleman will stay on the staff, but would understand if he leaves for a head coaching job.

It was a done deal when we read that Chad flew to Happy Valley on Friday.
Our fans will soon realize and then fully appreciate the choice that Chad has made. He obviously had an open mind about this process and listened to some people for opinions.
We need new blood in this program. Now we get the PSU playbook that contains more than the low ankle pick. I mean no disrespect for coach Smith. I wanted him to be around forever.
Let’s now fill future rosters with the best talent from OK and PA.
When living in PA I used to send local newspaper clippings featuring PA high school super stars in case he might be interested.
So I’m thrilled about this hire while still mourning the loss of coach Smith.
Coleman will be just fine. He will be a head coach again soon. Watch who we now get via the portal.

It’s a bold move and I think will translate into a fantastic hire. I’m glad Chad is swinging for the fences. I appreciate Coleman Scott, but, in order to beat Penn St., it was going to take one of their own (much like Iowa hiring Gable from ISU). Now, the administration needs to put money into the RTC and other aspects of the program to get back on top.

I was shocked too that we didn’t go with the OSU alum who’s had HC experience. I live in PA and have a good friend here who went to Penn State and follows their sports, including wrestling, religiously. Here is what he sent me about Taylor.

“So here is his resume. He was turned into a National Champ by Cael Sanderson. He was turned into a World Champ by Cael Sanderson. He won the most prestigious event in the world (a Russian event that no American has ever won) He was taught how to do it by Cael Sanderson. He understands what it takes. If you can’t wrestle for Cael you are going to want to wrestle for David. He is a legend. He will make a difference.

“He is going to pull some kids from PA and that will be huge. PA is the #1 wrestling state in the nation. There are kids that don’t even place at States that get recruited by top programs. It is like Texas with football.

“He has the intangibles. I have followed his career since he was in high school. He came out of no where to win the Champion of Champions in Ohio. It is the largest and most brutal high school tournament in the nation. He has out worked everyone. He runs his own wrestling club. He just knows how to win. That is the point. He knows how to win. He lost in the Olympic trials this year because he was hurt. And the guy that beat him, a PSUer, knew and felt really bad. There is a ton of respect for Taylor in the wrestling world. Kids will flock to him. I do believe that OK St. will compete with PSU in a couple of years. Which I am glad for. I would rather see OK St. win the PSU right now.”

Basically the same thing as the post above. But mine in Pennsylvania said we just had a Home run higher. He told me that if Cale left Penn State, David Taylor would be their hire. There’s so many things he’s gonna be able to do. He’s gonna be able to recruit Pennsylvania, which has said above is a huge thing. Also get ready, our club program is about to get elite in the next three years. I can tell you who’s probably not happy today, Iiowa Hawkeye fans. Maybe I’m drinking too much of the Kool-Aid but I think this is a game changer for a program.

I’m worried about the hire, not because he can’t be great but I’m hearing some internal rumblings that are concerning. Apparently, this came out of way left field for everyone. Also heard they called a team meeting to talk through things and none of the wrestlers attended. Might all be rumor, but it’s concerning.
