Iba and Gallagher need one first. But yes john has done it all.
If Smith doesn’t deserve one then who does…really?! I really think Uetake deserves one also not just because of the two Olympic golds like John, but he’s been a great ambassador for Ok State in another country. It took way too long for Sanders to get one. We still haven’t gotten one for one of the best ever to play RB in Thurman Thomas.
I’m not against a statue for John. But Pat Smith was the first college wrestler to win 4 natties. Mike Holder won EIGHT national titles that were spread out evenly over his coaching career (not a single team that won 4 straight + one in '94). A certain other school in OK puts up a statue for every heisman winner, we’ve had 2 wrestlers win the Dan Hodge trophy (Mocco and Ringer). so, sure - put up a statue for John. But also one for Holder, Pat Smith, and the Dan Hodge trophy winners.
