Hendrickson is a two-time All-American and Big 12 champion.
Be a big time scorer for us. Don’t know what’s coming back at hwt next year but if Suber had scored 10 points that would have been the difference in 10th place and 2nd or 3rd
Suber didn’t win a match did he ?
Surber was at 197. Doucet was at heavyweight this year. He had three takedowns all year so real doubtful he wrestles another match for us barring injury to Hendrickson
My mistake, I was thinking Suber was the one that didn’t score. My bad. I actually didn’t pay much attention to the last two weights because they never helped us all year
Doucet won’t ever wrestle for us unless injuries
Looks like we are well on our way to reclaiming our spot as big 12 champions. Much to the chagrin of the Iowa State and Missouri fans.
Surber was hampered by injuries, and when that happened I said, there goes our chances to place high at NCAA tournament. Otherwise, he was a really good wrestler.
Good and potentially bad news roping in Hendrickson for 285.
Good news is that he will place in top 4 at NCAA tournament. Bad news is that Carroll was the best heavy wt in highschool and he had redshirt season. So will he accept sitting out another season, or does he portal and earn a lot of money?
He would be wise to train under DT and crew and have 3 great seasons with really good teams here. But I would understand if does not want to wait. I am guessing he leaves.
Doucet did surprisingly well for someone who had no use for any offense. But hopefully, we won’t see him again.
As of now we have 5 guys who can place at nationals.
Cael Hughes, Jordan Williams, Dustin Plott, Hendrickson, and Surber if not injured.
I think Surber might have another year left.
Prefer to see Sam Smith at 125 instead of Spratley because of Spratley’s poor showing at NCAA. But maybe Gilman and Kennedy can work some magic with Spratley.
I think the guy with the most potential under great coaching would be Jordan Williams. He already is equipped with an abundance of fire. Just needs to learn the techniques to go with that.
I don’t recall who we have coming in from high school.
The 165 Lbs transfer should also give us points at NCAA. Possible for us to finish in top 4. And the season after that to chase second place. I would be pleased if we supplant Iowa as the perennial runner-up.
We should have at least 5 All-Americans next season.
Surprised to see Taylor Caldwell retained. I thought DT would instead hire a coach for 165 and up.
But Cowboy wrestling had seen its better days, it was time for a total revamp. This will soon be proved.
Carroll is likely slated for 197. I think he beats Surber. He wrestled 97 kg at Olympic Trials (213 pounds) and looked smaller that the people he wrestled. If he can cut to 213 no in season, he can make 197.
Carroll was always a bit small for 285, and too short. He will be short at 197, but one of strongest guys out there. They had Merrill, the new super recruit, slotted as future 285 pounder. Hendrickson allows OSU to redshirt Merrill.
OSU’s lineup from 174 to 285 is very strong. Hamiti at 174, Plott at 184, Carroll at 197, and Hendrickson at 285. Hard to say with Carroll (and maybe he does not beat out Surber), but sure looks like an AA to me. Hamiti was not an AA in a loaded 174, but I would be very surprised if he does not AA next year at 174. Plott and Hendrickson look like finalist to me.
The rest of line up has very good wrestlers, but no one who has broken out to be sure thing AA. I watched some matches with Hughes at US open, and he won open and his style translates to folkstyle very well (all his points were on basic leg takedowns). While Carroll scores a lot of freestyle points in ways that don’t count for folkstyle, so I am less certain about him, though he was a stud recruit and making Olympic trials is a very big deal.
I just heard a podcast with Wyatt Hendrickson. He confirmed that Carroll is going down to 197. He said Carroll is really, really fast.
Thompson should redshirt. He sure wasn’t ready this past season.
So this is morphing into a potent lineup.
It’s going to be strange watching duals with ESPN+ pointing the camera at John Smith sitting in the seats as a fan. I hope they hire him to provide color for some of the broadcasts.
With David Taylor creating so much attention from the media, I wonder if ESPN will televise some of our away duals if Flowrestling doesn’t have the contract for all of them?
The annual dual with Iowa might just be a little bit closer next season.
I think fans will once again be able to consider Cowboy wrestling as a dominant force.
There is no doubt that a new attendance record will be set next season. Embarrassing for this historical program to have less than 6,000 fans show up for a dual. JJ McComas coming in is exciting. Looks really big for his weight.
Retro wrestling is the name of the game. 1960’s all over again!
Fan involvement at osu, usually depends on the opponent. Some people just dnt want to watch a 27 t0 3 match
Great that Carrol makes 197. If so, i don’t think he will transfer. However, he couldn’t beat Doucet last year.
Doucet in the portal yet? Watching his matches was like watching paint dry.
I’m curious how this affects his service commitment. If he transferred out before the start of his Junior year he wouldn’t be required to go into the military, but after day 1 he incurs a commitment. I assume he’s joining Det 670, our Air Force ROTC program as well.
I think the Air Force gave him an exception for this one year from what I read I think this is his Covid year
