Probably reading too much into it, but I’m wondering if these recommits might have been told a coach has been selected and just waiting for announcement.

Who is recruiting for Okstate? There must be someone in play who has a recruiting staff ready to go coming in.

Looking at his offer sheet, it probably came down to OSU and Iowa State, My guess is that both schools were offering similar NIL deals, so he decided to stay close to home.

I don’t think so. I think the kid just decided he wants to be in Stilly with the offer in hand. I don’t think there is any coach in place yet and definitely no staff. There are too many dominoes to fall…outside of rumors of Franklin to Va Tech, there are still openings at Penn St, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, UCLA, Stanford, Auburn

No chance. You reassure them in any way you can that things are going just as planned. But there is no chance they have been told that a coach has been selected.

The “recommits” have kicked the tires for other offers and have not gotten the bites that they want. Signing Day is right around the corner. A smaller boat is far better than having no boat at all.

Not to mention the dominoes that fall once those hires are made. Openings aplenty. I think this a Golesh or Morris hire. Id personally want Golesh a little more than Morris. But thats just me.

The other side to it is that once a coach is hired, there’s no guarantee that the offer will still be there. I doubt OSU would reneg on a commitment, but if he’s not committed, telling a kid, that we’re going in a different direction wouldn’t be inappropriate. I’ve got to imagine that the kid knows that too.

What qualities do you see in Golesh that makes him your personal choice? I don’t know much about him but he’s 21-15 and 12-10 in conference at USF, which is much better than the previous 3 years of 4-29, 1-22…

The biggest things that id want if I was at a place like OSU (good job/not great job), is a guy that can recruit and run a program within the restrictions of the NIL/Portal era. He climbed up the ladder quicker due to being a dogged recruiter. There are some guys (Cale Gundy) who are considered very good recruiters, but they never had to do it when they werent the cutest girl in the room. Golesh has. Recruiting to Iowa St and USF are/will be very similar to what he’ll be doing in Stillwater. Hell know where to turn over rocks and find guys in Florida or Texas becuase hes had to do it everywhere hes been. He also is from the Heupel tree, which is the Air Raid that likes to run the football a little more. The downside is that if he has 3 years of success, he will leave for a better opportunity. But man thats the deal.. YOU SHOULD WANT THAT TO BE THE CASE. That means he did a ■■■■ good job. OSU has historically been a stepping stone job, and thats ok. Gundy was the exception.

We can take examples of Jimmy Johnson and Les Miles. Both raised the program but neither contended for a title, so I would rather hire a guy who wants to stay longer than 3 years. As well, a successful coach will bring along assistants. Johnson brought Pat Jones, which was very good at first and then his last 6 years were “poor us we’re on probation “. Miles brought Gundy, but Mike would have found his back to OSU at some point. Baylor has done pretty well with that model, but I want someone for a longer haul. Now that doesn’t mean 21 years, but 3 is too much turnover. Just my opinion.

“Neither contended for a title”. Johnson was the same coach in Stillwater as he was in Coral Gables. The only difference was that he had better players. Les Miles had OU, Texas, Nebraska to contend with. Golesh will not. He can be the #2 program in this Conf pretty quickly (Tech will be 1 with the NIL surplus). You guys have to get out of this comparing coaches from pre-NIL/Portal/OU/TX gone. Its a different world. I didnt literally mean 3 years total. So heres the question. Would you rather have 3 years that consisted of 1 playoff trip and a couple 10 win seasons…but your coach left after year 3. Then you get 2 years of a rebuild. Or, you go 5 years without a Conf title, but you go 9-3 every year. Which would you prefer?

Obvioulsy thats not an apples for apples comparison and you have other options/outcomes. But just for hits and grins

I don’t look at it as either or. That is just your made up example. It has no bearing on what might happen. That’s like asking you would you rather have boomer or sooner.
I want a coach who will first make OSU competitive again. I would love for him to contend in his second year. I would like for him to stay even if he has success.
