The QB market looks as if it can be as chaotic as the coaching market was.
I’m all for college free agency and players transferring, but I hate that the transfer portal is open while games are still be played. Can you imagine if the NFL free agency started between the end of the regular season and the playoffs? You penalize players (and teams) for being loyal to their teams? I understand that it revolves around the semester calendar and not the football calendar, but its dumbest part of the transfer portal.
Have them sit a year and you would stop all the chit
There needs to be caps for players and for teams. A lot of fans are getting disgusted with where CFB is heading.
I hate the free agency type and portal. As for it being open while games are still being played, you arent penalizing the playoff teams becuase they each get a window for their players to portal once their games are done.
It’s still the wild wild west right now. Makes no sense. Not good for anyone.
Contracts and a governing body will come. A league commissioner. Right now, it’s being used for a fox (big 10) vs abc/espn/disney (sec) battle. TV contracts need to either fall under the same umbrella for organic control, or a third party commissioner needs absolute power and authority to control this.
My guess is commissioner with the Big 10 and SEC being treated like the AFC and NFC. Greg Sankey already acts like it. Everything is being copied from the NFL. That is the powerbrokers goal.
I see the Big 10 and SEC absorbing 20 more schools and the real break-off will happen. It is the most important time to build Oklahoma State’s resume in our history. Now matters so much more than 2011 unfortunately. We need to go all-in. This will happen around 2032 when the next network contracts are signed. Divisions (like the NFL) in each conference will replicate college conferences of old. It took bowl games less than two years to die. Conference championships after that. It is what it is. Contracts, salary caps, revenue sharing
All the socialism those billionaires love for me but not for thee. The days of a rich oilman or cookie CEO propping the little guys up will stop… because no in the future will care anymore.
A side note that not many are talking about… the lack of a governing body means they have no right to enforce eligibility. Who are they to say Diego Pavia can’t come back? Why? They literally don’t have the right or means to say no. Vanderbilt could just technically suit him up next year. The law favors him. This might be the issue that breaks everything. If that is allowed, Olympic and women’s sports are completely done. China wins gold medal count the rest of our lives.
I’m not that far from jumping off the edge but one thing is sure. NCAA is just a footnote. They actually have no importance in football anymore. Now I think they do own March Madness so they may have some say in it Portal has been the biggest blunder since I’ve been alive, especially with no caps or jurisdiction
For the record, I’ve been saying this for the past several years as part of my “Gundy needs to go” posts. My only disagreement is timing. I think we may have till 2030, but after that, the ACC buyouts for FSU and UNC will be a pittance vs. what the annual team revenue for a Big 10 or SEC school is. Those schools will happily pay $100M exit fee to go make an additional $40-50M per year. In fact, (and as Ive noted), the ACC being unable to even get its champ in the playoff this year, may accelerate that timetable. OSU football being 1990s bad right now is the absolute worst thing possible for all of OSU athletics.
