Lane Kiffin snagged another former Cowboy QB.

He’ll play, if he stays injury free, a lot more at Ole Miss than Sanders did, and become a good QB IMO. Kid has serious potential.

Great fit. I think he’ll tear it up there. The arm talent is evident, poise was above average for a true freshman on a bad team, and athleticism is good enough.

I’ll be cheering for him!

Eh… I just looked at Ole Miss’s roster. They have a sophomore backup that played a bit last year and a redshirt 4 star who was a Top 20 player in the state of Mississippi.

I wouldn’t bet on Smith playing. No one’s entrenched and he’ll probably get a chance to compete, but Smith didn’t seem all that special to me. If he’s not a top 2 QB at Oklahoma State, why is he higher up the depth chart in the SEC? I think he’s a depth piece.

Agreed. Seems pretty obvious Smith was #4 on our depth chart after spring game.

I still think there is a chance Rangel comes back.

Lane Kiffin isn’t just handing out QB scholarships. Especially to a guy that will take up a spot for 4 years.

Correct. He’s handing out a scholarship to a dedicated 3rd stringer with upside and some playing experience because you need QB depth in case of injury. We just did it after Rangel and Smith left.

I’m not saying he has zero chance to start, but I think it’s unlikely and is for sure going to be penciled in as 3rd stringer from day 1.

Welp, probably the best one we had lol.

Of course he’ll come in as a third (or fourth) stringer. He’s a freshman coming to the team after spring practice.

But I don’t think Lane gave him a scholarship just to be a depth piece. He clearly believes he’s talented enough to potentially start at Ole Miss.

Hey champ,

Based on what exactly?
