Looking at the options to succeed Ollie Gordon.

Running back isn’t the biggest issue. It’s the OL.

OL was the big issue last year. Most experienced line in the country that did not perform and we are still wondering why!

Trent Howland will be the RB1 this year. Big,strong and elusive. Fields will be the scatback change of pace back.

So basically Gundy has given us two comments on the QB and RB races so far: “one guy needs to step up and separate from the pack.”

Either we have a bunch of back-ups and no starters or Gundy’s history of being unable and/or unwilling to name a starter continues to rear its ugly head. Why do I feel like we’re going to see 12 different QB-RB combinations next year until the season is so lost it doesn’t matter any more

Well….we finished at the very bottom of the conference last season with the most returning starters :man_shrugging:.

Well this statement isn’t wrong in the sense of it’s what needs to happen. Also perhaps wait until fall camp to start complaining about the inability to name a starting QB. Spring camp is a bit early for a variety of reasons so complaining about it now seems a bit like complaining for the sake of complaining.

A running back can be strong and elusive all he wants. Unless he’s the next Barry Sanders he isn’t doing anything with inconsistent OL play. OG won the Doak Walker, and the next season was lucky if he could even get to 3.5 yards per rush. Believe it or not, coaching matters no matter how good of a team you might have. The fact we returned the most starters in the conference and finished dead last is all the proof you need.

Gundy already knew during spring camp of 2023 that Bowman would be his starter. Look at how that worked out the very next season when teams figured out how to stop OG and weren’t afraid of Bowman’s skills? Gundy either needs a multi-talented QB that can do just about anything, or he needs to make sure his OC has half a brain.
