Steve Lutz Explains Late-Game Strategy in TCU Loss

‘You’ll never find a time that myself and our staff haven’t done our homework so that we know the best options down the line.’

Now, someone tell us what Brantley was thinking to shoot the ball with 14 seconds left and the shot clock OFF at the end of the first half.

(Sidebar #1: not to nitpick, but TCU had played 23 games, not 19.

Sidebar #2: I looked back over TCU’s schedule and they’ve basically had two other one possession games…Wenzel made a 3-pointer to beat Baylor and Reynolds made a lay-up to beat Kansas State.)

By the way, I LIKE the arrogance and am optimistic Lutz will make OSU competitive again in 1-2 years.

For me it’s only one if next year isn’t significantly better than this year.

In this portal era, one year is probably fair!

"Anybody that wants to challenge our line of thinking, I’d be happy to sit down and say, OK, they played 19 games. Did you watch 19 films? Well, if you haven’t then you really shouldn’t have an opinion. We’ve done our job, just didn’t work out in our favor.”

And that’s really all that needs to be said.

That being said, we as fans have footage of several of our games this year and…whew…I think it’s fair to have an opinion that this is rough and our plans need to change to better fit our very limited talent.

Agree something has to give with our talent. We have gotten beat worse this year than probably any in the last 20 years. Yes he will win more games than boynton did last year, but its been forever since we have gotten pounded this bad as many times as we have this season. Yes its his first year, but the sad thing is he got all the players he wanted to fit his style. Yes he missed out on a few he wanted but he still got players he said would give us chances. We havent had many chances this year against the upper half (minus Houston).

I disagree that he got the players he wanted. He got the players that were left that could perhaps fit his style of play. Whether it’s an excuse or not, Lutz was behind the 8 ball from the start being hired so late.

I was at the game today and I was talking with a buddy of mine and I think it might be generous to say there are four players, max, who are truly Big 12 level talent on this roster. Not starters, but guys who can at least make a team in this league. We’re simply overmatched in almost every game we play and we could perhaps have better game plans, sets, etc. to accommodate our talent level but I also think the best plans just don’t matter after a certain point when you’re playing significantly better teams.

However, getting beat down by ■■■■ near 40 points on your home floor signals issues that go beyond talent that Lutz will need to address.
