The Final Draw: Did UCF Expose Cracks in the Cowboy Defense That Houston Can Exploit?

A deep dive into OSU’s win against UCF.

Houston is really good offensively. They can run (13th nationally) and pass (39th nationally). Our pass defense is actually better than our run defense. I have this feeling we’re gonna try to stuff the run and gamble a bit on the back end of the defense.

One of my biggest concerns is that Houston is 5th nationally when it comes to run defense. I think they’ll try to keep 6-7 in zone coverage with 4-5 in the box at all times, and force us to run, dink and dunk, and take longer drives. Luckily Caleb Hawkins leads the nations in broken tackles.

The one really good thing I like in this game is Mestemaker vs the 115th ranked pass defense. If we have to dink and dunk all game then so be it. I just wish the defense could force an offense to punt more than one or twice in the first half.

I think our defense will play better at Houston but I also think our offense is better than their offense and our defense is better than their defense. I don’t think they can beat us in a shootout unless they win turnovers by 2+.
