Discussing OSU’s jersey patch, eligibility rules and whether Liv McGill will be generational.
I totally sympathize with Justin’s take on the jersey patches. However, we have to be honest: college athletics (in particular football) has been a business for over 40 years. This all started in 1984 when the Supreme Court allowed conferences to negotiate their own media deals. Once that happened and money came flowing in, it was all over. Where college athletics is at now can be traced to that decision. Even the lawyer who argued for it now admits that this decision screwed up college sports.
Knew things had changed when War Memorial stadiums, dedicated to those that “gave the last full measure of devotion”, began changing names to the highest ego, er, bidder.
