The Story of the 1975 Bedlam Wrestling Brawl

The OU heavyweights brother charged the mat and a melee happened.

Awesome story.

Also, it sounds like the Oklahoma media has had an OU bias for a long time. They didn’t even reach out to OSU’s coach? That seems like pretty irresponsible journalism.

Good article. I was at that match and it was all as you describe and more. The crowd noise was so loud that you couldn’t hear the sound of your own voice during most of the match. The OU heavyweight’s name was Kalkbrenner. His brother was sitting in some bleachers right behind the OU wrestlers. Jimmy and Kalkbrenner went off mat at the OU end and Jimmy gave him a little shuck which resulted in Kalkbrenner falling down on the hardwood. It was at that point that Kalkbrenner’s brother came out of the bleachers behind the OU team and took a swing at Jimmy. At that point all of the football players came out of their seats and the fight was on. There was fighting everywhere. It was truly bedlam.
