The Top 5 Quotes from Mike Gundy's Post-West Virginia News Conference

Everyone needs to just calm down! Everyone is frustrated and acting hateful doesn’t do the program any good at all especially towards a man like Mike Gundy who has given his heart and soul to this program almost continuously since he was a player. If you haven’t learned anything about Mike, is he doesn’t throw ANYONE under the bus. He is a standup guy and that’s why he has built this program, the college on the prairie, into what it is today! he sees the problems with his assistants and he also knows that changes need to be made. He has stated many times that this program and its members are like family. He dwells on the family as significant in its success. He isn’t going to throw these men out in the middle of the season. He also knows he is going to take the heat for it. But that’s who is is and for 20 years almost everyone has been very pleased ie 18 consecutive bowl games, winning seasons, coach of the year several times etc. He has done the Cowboy Nation proud! One season does not diminish who he is or what he has accomplished. I am 73 years young, my mother was a Stillwater girl. We had season tickets through good and the bad. I have experienced it all. I also remember big football programs that threw out winning legendary coaches ie Frank Solich at Nebraska. Who was fired even winning 10-11 games a season. Nebraska hasn’t been the same power team since. So what I’m saying is what kind of fans have we become if when the going gets tuff we start booing at our Cowboys and calling for the coach’s head. My dad would never have booed the Cowboys EVER. He bled orange and was LOYAL AND TRUE

Gundy hasn’t “given his heart and soul to OSU”, he’s been paid handsomely for his services as a coach. And right now he’s not even close to meeting OSU’s pretty modest expectations.

He’s a big boy millionaire, he can handle fair online criticism, which he doesn’t read anyway so who cares?

One conference title in 20 years? A team that returned 20 starters sitting at 3-3? Keep in mind the last two games have been blowouts :+1:.

He had the chance to make those changes two years ago, and he didn’t do it.

Gundy does less with more. Please see 2013, 2017, and 2024 as evidence. Anytime he returns a majority of starters since 2011 he tends to do worse. Which is why none of the national pundits chose him to even make the CCG this season. We can clearly see the reason now.

Nobody is calling for Gundy’s head. They’re asking him and his assistants to do their jobs. If the school is paying these coaches top 15 pay, then they need to coach like it. That’s the current issue of the team. The 3-3 record with a team that probably should be winning the conference is evidence of that. Not just a 3-3 record itself, but the last two games not even being remotely close to winnable.

Currently, we’re dead last in the conference. There’s absolutely no excuse for them to be this unprepared this season. This is why we’re stuck with clowns like this. It’s because old Boomers such as yourself don’t react as much as you should.

Ok boomer. Let me update you a little on the world of big time college athletics. Players are paid today. Some very handsomely. Mike Gundy makes over $8 million a year and his terrible OC makes $1 million. Gundy isn’t doing it for the love of OSU. He’s doing it for the money. So is Dunn and Nardo. They will be okay if they get canned. What kind of fans are we? We’re fans that expect a top 15-paid coach to finish in the top 15. If we go back to not investing money in the program, go back to coaches making less than $1 million, go back to Rustoleum stadium, etc., then we can go back to accepting mediocrity.

Mike Gundy is the best football coach OSU has ever had and he deserves all kinds of accolades. But the program is not where it once was and losing seasons and squandered opportunities are no longer acceptable. These ain’t the Hank Iba as AD days. Perhaps Gundy is a victim of his own success, but this kind of performance doesn’t cut it anymore. OSU fans have got to get out of that “loyal and true,” (meaning don’t criticize) mindset and the longtime little brother loser mentality. As Gundy said, we got a logo too. It’s time we have logo expectations.

Your points are well thought out and are a valid perspective. It’s too bad you can’t make them without insults.

It’s Gundy and the staff giving OSU a black eye right now, not booing fans. The fans are right to boo this garbage.

Loyalty doesn’t require fans to just sit there and watch garbage and say “go pokes!”

It’s exactly our love for OSU that makes us so upset at this terrible on field product, and a coach that doesn’t seem all that bothered by it. It’s insulting.

Our logo, at this point, just means you can come here and do a crap job while being compensated well for it.

If we don’t call you out for living 50 years in the past, then you’ll never understand the point we’re trying to get across. We’ve had 20+ years of bowl consistency now. It’s time to move onto the bigger picture. Gundy is still under this notion that it’s 1988 and making a bowl game is a big deal like a lot of Boomers. I can understand considering there were only 18 bowl games in 1988.

There are currently 41+ bowl games. That means out of 134 D1 teams there will be 82+ making it to a bowl. That equals out to about 61% of D1 teams playing in some kind of postseason game. Thats not very impressive these days. Spare me the arguments for teams like Nebraska and Florida State. OSU fans shouldn’t be forced into accepting being part of the 61% when the coaching staff receives top 15 pay. There’s something really wrong with that picture.

You can find a good coach that cares if you’re willing to shell out the money for a staff that you do for Gundy and the circus clowns he’s hired recently.

Typical Biden voter.
