Agreed. Gundy has elevated the program. He deserves that credit, and I think that plus the injuries buys him this season. Question will be what does he do to fix the problem - if both the OC and DC are here next year, the fans will bail on the program big time. Outside of Gundy, no one has any belief that either of them are capable at this level. He should fire both now, in order to hire new staff that can be in place for recruiting.
But the OSU president and AD should also be thinking of the future. How many years more do they give Gundy?
There is that chance that the next coach will be the football equivalent of Brad Underwood - someone on a path to somewhere else. But, KSU has managed to succeed even though Manhattan, KS is at least as tough a sell to players as Stillwater, if not tougher. So it can be done.
During the time I was watching this all I could think about was Marshawn Lynch saying âIâm just here so I donât get finedâ to every question he was asked.
Gundy just acted like there was a million other places he would rather be then talking to these reporters. The fire is gone.
Clint, itâs happened in football for all of our history except for the Gundy era so yes there is a good chance we return to that once Gundy is gone. I hope I am wrong but history says I might not be.
With the way college football used to operate I would agree. But things are now operating under a totally new paradigm and itâs probably going to change even more next year and the year after that as well making the ability to make major roster swings year to year the norm. The days of needing 2-3 years to rebuild a team will be lessened although it will still take good coaches and the right funding to make things work.
No one is going to fund a team when the head coach goes 0-9 in conference play and told the fanbase theyâre poor losers. Most of our talent is graduating and Gundy hasnât recruited anywhere near where he needs to/should be recruiting at.
Gundy is more focused on whatâs easy and comfortable for him than he is on whatâs good for the players, the program, and Oklahoma State. This is why he settles for mediocre coordinators. Stability is comfortable for him, and thatâs all he really cares about any more.
If youâre referring to reloading via the transfer portal, just who the hell do you think wants to come to Oklahoma State next year? No one worth a dam Iâll tell you that.
This team wonât go 3-0 next year before conference play, and thereâs no reason to assume theyâll win a conference game. You saw all that talent leaving in the article, and even more are gonna hit the portal the second it comes open.
We might not even have a full roster of scholarship players next year, Iâm serious. 0-12 is a very real possibility in 2025.
Itâs going to take a new coach and years to get back to simply being competitive. 6-6 is a looooong way off. OSU wonât sniff a bowl game until 2030 at best. Even longer the more we allow Gundy to sink this ship. By then the B1G and SEC will have consolidated their grip on CFB and we may as well can the whole program.
This is not merely a bad year, this program is disintegrating before our eyes. They are not capable of bouncing back in 2025, the talent drain will simply be too great. And that talent was only good for 3-9 as it is! Next season can only be worse.
I just looked at 2025âs non conference schedule, and we may be able to squeak out a win vs UT Martin, so 1-11 is a possibility. I apologize for being overly bleak earlier.
I prefer conference titles. Especially in a conference that doesnât have Texas or OU that OSU needs to compete against any longer. Now with that being said, we have two coaches in the conference that have spent a lot less time at their schools, and theyâve won the same amount of conference titles as Gundy.
Better yet, Gundy practically returned his entire team (same as last season) and canât win a conference game now. So youâre talking about stability and not being in the gutter. WellâŚâŚwhat does this year look like to you then? If we have a mass exodus in the portal and misuse our NIL funds because we have coaches that canât plan, prep, and execute. What good does it do?
Think about what you just said for a moment. We returned the second most starters in the nation and youâre talking about a rebuild? Youâve got to be f***in kidding me. Gundy has a history of doing this. Heâll return a boatload of starters and find a way to keep himself out of possibly getting a conference title. Did it in 2013, 2017, and now 2024. Gundy says he wants championship football, and he doesnât get have a championship mindset.
What else do you want him to prove to you? Does he need to go three years in a row without a conference win? Thereâs absolutely no reason for him to be this bad with what he returned. At the bare minimum our OC and DC need to be gone. If he doesnât do either one itâs Gundyâs ego that will send OSU football back to the gutter days. Where Gundy eventually retires and he gets to tell you heâs the best coach ever at OSU. Not sure about you, but I donât want to go down that road.
Youâre right. Indiana fired their coach and brought in a proven winner that was under Nick Saban at one point in time. That dude is #5 in the nation right now.
Hereâs to hoping we can add Gundy and all his clueless playcallers to the senior day list. Farewell! We are paying a totally absurd amount of money for no conference wins and no bowl game. If we are keeping this guy around, his contract needs to be restructured big time. Heâs one of the highest paid in the entire country and we have zero conference wins. Starting to think this reflects negatively on the entire school if weâre not smart enough to put two and two together. Thank God we have basketball. Maybe we go back to being a basketball school and not a football school.
