‘This conference, I think anybody can beat anybody if you’re not ready to go on Saturday.’
"“I want it right now — I’m like everybody else,” McGuire said. “… If I’m not the most frustrated person in the country when it comes to Texas Tech football — I live it every day. This is my life. I get the frustration. I appreciate it. I really appreciate it because we’re lucky at a place that we have such a passionate fanbase. I understand the frustration, but I also understand that getting to eight wins … I think it hasn’t been done since 2009. …
“Whenever I say that, it’s not good enough. We all know that. It’s not good enough. I’m here to win the Big 12. It’s not good enough, but to grow this program and push it forward, it’s really important.”"
Someone explain why I’ve never seen a similar quote from Gundy? Instead we get comments about how he doesn’t listen to fans, and how those who complain are losers in life.
But I bet Gundy will be in the office early. (Makes me want to puke.)
Well since McGuire hasn’t done much yet all he can do is talk a big game. Not impressed by talk, results matter.
This is his 3rd year at Tech right? Seems like he’s on the Gundy trajectory. Gundy won 4, 7, then 8 games his first 3 years if I recall correctly. Isn’t that basically where McGuire is? Heck, in year 3, Gundy still talked about ownership and showed fire and emotion, so maybe in another 15 years McGuire will have quit talking about ownership, winning expectations, and disappointments too.
Cool, I’ve no clue where McGuire is. BTW the same attitude, mine anyway, applies to HCMG. That is I don’t care about what Gundy says outside of something factual. Talk is cheap. As far as I am concerned he can say and do what he wants. It’s the results that matter. I get it that it is fun for some to rip him for saying stupid things or trying experiments like hiring div III coaches. As for me I find that kind of stuff just interesting or funny, especially when everyone loses their minds about it, for a bit and than just move on from it. Results are what I am interested in.
I get you. But if you are a donor, do you want to write NIL checks to a coach that talks like he’s as disappointed and frustrated with the team’s performance and who owns his responsibility, or one who’s nonchalant about winning and losing, makes fart noises in response to media questions, and criticizes the fanbase for complaining about an 0-7 conference record?
So while I agree with you that results matter, I disagree that its all that matters. But attitude is important. Representing the University the right way is important. And Gundy is currently failing in both the results and the “talk” portions of his role.
Yep, we need this attitude from MG. Maybe he has it in practice, or in the office. But, I think the fan base needs to see a little bit of it. I know he’s very reserved about what’s going on in practice and with the team, and he should be. But, the donors and fans need to see a little bit of fire. He hasn’t shown that in the last 4 or 5 years. If he’d get a little more animated, like he used to, he’d probably get the kids/players to exert a tiny bit more effort. But, I’m not a coach, so…
Agree. Besides, if the attitude didn’t matter, then why do all these other coaches talk about ownership, disappointment, changes, etc. in their press conferences.

and criticizes the fanbase for complaining about an 0-7 conference record?
Well first of all I doubt there are many if any big time donors who care about HCMG comments but my message to those who do is to grow up. Words can’t really hurt you and if they do it’s your own fault. Go Pokes!

Well first of all I doubt there are many if any big time donors who care about HCMG comments
Since you can’t read have someone read to you the Tulsa paper. The guy in charge of gathering nil money says it’s already having an effect. Or maybe you should just stay stupid.
Just for the record @ar1 I have you blocked so I don’t see your comments unless I really want to. And no I can’t read the Tulsa paper. I don’t trust anything the media says. It’s a new paradigm. So don’t respond to me it’s a waste of your time.
For someone who claims to have me blocked, you sure seem to respond to everything I post. I’m actually sorry to hear about your illiteracy but now you can listen to 619 podcast on here and they can explain it to you.
Well keep the faith cause we got to stop these Gundy haters who think winning the conference is some how better than just making a bowl consistently. (Well almost consistently)
