Three Thoughts on Oklahoma State's Quarterback Room with Rangel and Smith in the Portal

On inexperience, potential and flowers for Rangel.

“ “I think he’s ready now, he’s just not experienced,” said Gundy last August. “But he’s big, he’s strong, he’s fast, he’s smart, he’s tough. His attitude’s good. He’s humble. He’s hungry.”

 here comes that “experience” part again.

bill18, did you go to the spring game?

Hey champ,

They literally just shipped off the two most experienced QBs. You’re complaining about non-existent problems as usual.

This maybe a J W and Mason qb system going forward ,? If you can play you can play I’ve seen true freshman come in and be effective

Zach Robinson had no experience- Did just fine

Brandon Weeden had no experience- Did just fine

Mason Rudolph had no experience- Did just fine

Taylor Cornelius had no experience- Did okay

Gundy thinks experience is everything. It’s the reason he started Bowman (even though he didn’t play a game for almost three years :man_shrugging:). Experience doesn’t matter to me on our depth chart of new quarterbacks. Mainly because Gundy’s track record of evaluation of his QB roster has been consistently wrong. Having experience doesn’t mean you can’t suck. Then again, it doesn’t help that Tim Rattay just stood around collecting a paycheck.

Hey champ,

What I’m saying is that we let the two most experienced QBs go, so clearly, experience is not the end all and be all in the process. You just have conversationa with yourself half the time.

Some of the same people wanted Sanders gone too smh , probably would of hit the playoffs 2 years ago with him instead of Bowman playing ring around the QB room with one loss possibly. Ollie and Sanders would had been a lethal back field with the RPO.

HH will probably start, more suited for Doug’s offense and familiar with it if I were to gamble on it. HH at least on EA College Football 25 video game was rated as one of the fastest QB’s. I know it’s a video game but he can really run and has wheels.

The people that value experience wanted our most experienced QB gone? Or did they just want him gone since he didn’t want to stay? He was offered a lot of money to stay, so it wasn’t anyone inside the program.

Quit writing about the one’s who transfer out. The minute they decide to leave, they are no longer Pokes. I’m glad they’re gone. And for the love of God, get off Rangel’s dong just because he stuck around longer than he should have.

Hey champ,

You don’t speak for anyone, people are interested in who is leaving, and I imagine he was advised to leave.

I’m hardly wrong about QBs, rangel has been the most play ready. I’ve not like Kasey Dunn since he became a OC. Inconsistent and bipolar offense with no identity. We had a identity on offense for years till he became a OC. We were prolific offense even with average players.

Look at the last few years of Mack Brown who went away from what they were doing to something completely different on offense.

You’re right. Maybe Gundy truly has given up on what he thinks a QB’s assets should be after getting it wrong so many times :+1:.

We’ll never know because we stuck with a QB coach that just wanted to be paid, and an “OC” that helped us lose the closest we’ve been to a second conference title.

Hey champ,

Experience clearly is an asset. It’s stupid to act like experience is the enemy. Talent is also important, but it’s not everything, but every talented QB we’ve ever had and almost everyone in history, has gotten better with experience.

I didn’t say experience is an enemy. I simply said you can have experience and still be a chitty QB. There’s a difference. You can still be experienced and your QB coach could still suck and not teach you anything for the your entire stint at OSU. Like learning to not throw off your back foot for example :+1:.

Not when Tim Rattay is your QB coach :man_shrugging:.

Easy Trav it’s a discussion for all points. You don’t want to be lumped in with Joe and a couple of others thsf just bash anything Gundy
Next year could be decent or good. Tech has gobs of money they are dropping and still haven’t won anything I know of It’s a completely different game with different players Cheer up :cowboy_hat_face:

I shouldn’t get too worked up. Heck, I can’t watch any of the home games next year in our usual seats. I’ll be working concessions for the next 4 years until my son graduates high school. :joy:
