I thought this was an OSU website not ATM…

So to bring this back to the Thunder… Bertans was apparently available for 2 first rounders. OKC should’ve pulled the trigger…
He is an expiring contract. I don’t know that I would have given 2 firsts for a half year rental when you are more than a single Bertans away from being a true title contender.
Are we sure they aren’t more than one more scorer away? Let alone a 7 foot scorer. This team is good. Nobody is a real super power right now as much as the Clippers and Lakers and Bucks may look it. The Thunder since starting 5-10 have been just as good. Plus when you’ve got 15 picks… giving up 2 isn’t a bad deal. Especially for a guy who would probably re sign. He’s been in small markets and could win. I think it was worth a shot. But I love Bertans.
He would definitely be a major upgrade over human cucumber sandwich Mike Muscala.
Yeah, I don’t think anyone would argue that point. How is it that every guy that we sign or gets traded to us forgets how to shoot? I know that isn’t really how it is, but it feels like it sometimes.
I see this thrown around a lot… but I don’t think it’s all that true. Everyone has kind of shot exactly what they were before they came. The only real exception I can think of was Patterson, but he never really got a fair run. ![]()
Edit: I also see a lot of “man everyone gets better when they leave” ![]()
McDermott had his 2nd worst 3 point shooting season in OKC too. He is a career 41% shooter who shot 36% Not bad, but definitely not up to his standards. He has also improved his game since leaving.
His shortest stint with a team has also been the Thunder. Only 22 games. A 22 game sample doesn’t really work out to the average, just like his 26 games with Dallas was 49% which is insane. We take those two high and low and you get 42% for 48 games or half a season. That’s more on the average of course.
Also shooters need the ball and that was Russ’s scorched earth F everyone season.
AKA- The only time I have ever enjoyed professional basketball
Yeah, I know there are reasonable explanations for things like that. It just feels that way sometimes.
The biggest one I’ve heard is Kevin Martin and how he was so bad when he came… but he shot 43% from 3 and 45% overall. His best 3 point shooting season of his career.
But that’s just people being upset about the Harden trade I’m sure.
Kevin Martin was awesome. That was the best Thunder team IMO. Had Russ not gone down, that team had a very real chance to win a title.
This is just a general aside… But I really really wish KD wasn’t so soft. Like I think generally everyone is over him leaving OKC by now and the dude SHOULD get his jersey in the rafters, but he keeps opening the discussion back up and trashing OKC. With every statement he makes he just seems more and more weak. He is the only one who can’t let it go. Makes me wonder if Russ was the #1 guy instead of KD if OKC would’ve won a championship. Which is INSANE to think.
Yeah, the dude thought championships would make him happy. He won all the ships and Finals MVP honors with GSW and they clowned him in the parade. He just wants to be happy and I think he realized that none of this material stuff is ever going to get him there. He was so damaged mentally by the reaction of him leaving and I think the media and fans were justified in calling it an extremely weak move. Perk got after him on Twitter the other day. Analysts bring it up, but it still gets brought up at times. Then he realized half of what made the media dawg him for leaving OKC was the way he did. So he agrees to a sign and trade that helps GSW and he gets railed again for not doing it in the past with OKC. He can’t get away. I’m starting to actually feel kind of sad for the guy. He may never be truly happy. I think he regrets the whole thing and that’s why he keeps trying to weirdly justify his decision after everyone else has let it go.
See my thing with him is like yeah I agree he probably is feeling all those things. And like now I do feel bad for the guy, but instead of trying to run back to “oh this is really why” just stop talking. Like someone in his camp has got to tell him “hey man I know you’re trying to make it better but just stop talking about it and it’ll go away”. Nobody even sees him anymore has the basketball player. Which is so sad, because he is the best scorer the game has seen. But all his legacy will be is him not being able to handle this.
It was a cupcake move and I hope he’s reminded of it frequently.
