Do you have a short attention span or something? Look at the entire conservation above between you, AR, and myself. Then tell my if you’ve figured it out.
When you go 0-9 in a conference with no BB schools. You’ve already set yourself in a dark age. Don’t know if you’ve noticed. We’re 20-19 since Knowles left. Maybe not a complete dark age, but only steering further away from ever winning the conference again.
Good news! I figured it out! We’ve been talking about not having good enough (QB) recruiting to win the conference. Since Alabama is not in our conference, their recruiting has no bearing on whether or not our recruiting is good enough to win the conference. It was a complete non sequitur! My conclusion: you are a moron.
You can’t stay on track. You said Weeden didn’t have a great NFL career. I told you Weeden won the conference without a talent rich team. While the 2011 team was good they also had something called coaching. Weeden didn’t get great coaching in the NFL.
There’s a reason no other schools came for Dunn and he eventually got fired. There’s a reason our staff picked up Bowman. It’s because Gundy seems to think subpar coaching and “experience” at the QB position means success. When all it really means is mediocrity. If experienced mattered so much we would’ve won at least one conference game last season.
I can’t stay on your roller coaster track that zigs and zags in impossible directions.
Three first round picks on the same team with a couple of later round picks and some undrafted free agents is one of our best rosters ever and probably better than the majority of our conference, not Alabama or the SEC. OU and Texas probably had more, but I didn’t check.
But you know one school did come for him…
Yes, two reasons, actually: our starting QB bailed on us and our first choice in the transfer portal went somewhere else.
Let’s just see how many players were drafted in 2011 from each school:
OSU- 3 players drafted
OU- 7 players drafted
Texas- 3 players drafted
As a collective Weeden was playing with less talent than one other team, and possibly equal if not a little less to the other. Since we’re sticking with conference only like you wanted to. You’ve just made the point that Weeden didn’t have nearly as much talent around him. Yet, he’s the only QB in the Gundy era to win the conference. Do you see how coaching, QB recruiting, and evaluation matters now?
The most talented roster we’ve had in the Gundy era? Yeah, I really made that stupid point you said. I like how you gave total picks, too. Two first rounders for OSU, one of which might be the best wide receiver in college football history, at least has to be in the conversation with two Biletnikoffs.
No one is saying those things don’t matter, by the way, I don’t say retarded things like when you treat player experience as a negative. In fact, if 2009 Weeden showed up tomorrow, you’d throw shade for Gundy loving his old, mature players. This is, by the way, where you inevitably go braindead. You take the opposite position on everything even when that makes you contradict yourself.
I am saying that trying to make that point by saying we didn’t have a stellar roster in 2011 is dumb. Justin Gilbert was ALSO on that team and would be drafted top ten the next year, so that’s two top ten selections on one team. Since Thurman Thomas slipped to the 2nd round due to injury, I’m guessing we’ve never had two top ten guys on the same roster in school history.
Not if you’re comparing it to OU that season. Base on draft results OU was more talented as a collective. You want to take about Gilbert as a 1st round pick when that wasn’t until two years later. OU, for example, had 10 players drafted in 2013 and 2014 compared to OSU’s 2 players being drafted . Weeden still remains the only QB in the Gundy era to have less talent than another team, and still win the conference .
You keep missing the entire point. Because you’ve decided to keep focusing on your single point narrative. We had coaching and a QB. We haven’t had either one of those since. The last real coach we had was Knowles.
So how did that work out for us? Did it get us a top tier bowl game, conference title, or bowl game in 2024? I’ve never said experience is outright bad. I’ve always said experience doesn’t matter if the player isn’t any good. Bowman was not good. He at least would’ve been an UDFA if he were, and not be in the UFL.
