Where the Oklahoma State Football Job Ranks Among Current Openings

Hang on, hang on…you say Indiana has no chance? They have the best win in the country at this point and are ranked #3. They will go undefeated thru the regular season and host a playoff game. You guys cant scream that the playoffs and winning in a singular season all of a sudden are worthy of saying a program is a winner/loser…then dump on what Indiana is doing. Cignetti is big time. How can you possibly give Ole Miss the stamp of apporval (who has done nothingof significance)…but not Tech or Indiana??

Oregon is now a constant. They werent what I would consider a constant yet in my book.

You can argue that were cynical…but theres no doubt that youre a pessimistic curmudgeon.

You’re moving goal posts. You were talking about people legitimately having a shot at winning it all. Now you’re talking about having a good season.

I’m not dumping on Indiana. Cignetti is a fantastic coach (and he’s no spring chicken as everyone here harps on about needing a “young, energetic coach”). They’re having a great season. They’re not going to win it all, though. It’s going to be one of the same teams.

I keep asking this question: when was the last time a team won the National Championship, that had never won it previously in their history. 15 schools have won the NC 80% of the time. The answer is Florida in 1996. Previous to that the longest drought of a new school winning it all had been 5 years. Now we are at 29. In the 90s there were 5 schools that achieved this: Colorado, Georgia Tech, Washington, Florida St & Florida. None since.

No, I’m not. Indiana went 11-2 & made the playoff last year. They just went to Oregon & won this year. They currently are the 3rd best odds to win the national title, behind only Ohio St & Bama. Contrary to what most believe, Indiana has pretty deep pockets. They absolutely “have a chance”….& it’s a legitimate one. As long as Cignettis there, they’ll be a contender. While the pool still isn’t all-inclusive, it’s deeper than it’s ever been. You’ll argue it, cause your rooting interest is currently on the struggle bus.

I dont really know if that stat is indicative of much? Not discounting it. Just not sure what that really leads to.

College football has 47 different schools that have won the Nat Championship. Basketball, has fewer than that. There are 90% of basketball programs that have never won the title. While “only” 66% in football. This is a big Wrestling school. Go look at those numbers. 58 of 94 Titles have been won by 2 programs. Over 60% of the titles have been won by those two programs. What do those numbers mean? Whatever you want them to, to some extent.

Again, this site is filled with posters who paint the most pessimistic picture of College football…in massive part due to their program being in a valley. But fellas…the sport is THRIVING. The Usual Suspects love the sport and you are adding some new blood to the mix as well. I know you guys currently hate it and thats fine.

Speaking of coaching searched, this was announced today:

I’ll never hate the sport itself. I understand the current climate does not favor Oklahoma State, and that very few schools each year have a realistic shot at a Natty. My university’s team being bad at the sport won’t change how I feel about college football. I have a larger beef with the NCAA as a governing institution. I also hate that we can’t get fair, consistent officiating across the board regardless of conference. My only other issue is that we are losing the spirit of the game itself in the name of safety and camaraderie. Football was designed to be rough, violent, played angry with something to prove. Teams that are bitter rivals aren’t supposed to be recruiting the type of kids that say “oh yeah, he still hit me up cause we played 7 on 7 together and went to the same camps. Yeah, we stay in touch throughout the season.” Like, I hate that nonsense. Defenders being penalized, inconsistently I might add, for playing the sport the way it was intended. Get rid of targeting calls and roughing the passer calls.

Bad officiating is a thing at every level, in every sport. I think its fair. I just dont think its very good. I dont agree with the getting rid of targeting and roughing the passer. I agree that it gets a little out of hand at times and can be too touchy…But, i also dont wanna see backup QB’s going at it every week. I dont want my QB going down at any level. So im fine with the gaem protecting those guys a little.

Now this…"Teams that are bitter rivals aren’t supposed to be recruiting the type of kids that say “oh yeah, he still hit me up cause we played 7 on 7 together and went to the same camps. Yeah, we stay in touch throughout the season.”…I AGREE WITH 100%! I hate that mentality. But, its everywhere and its not changing. AAU/Travel Ball/Camps/Passing Leagues have created this monster and its never changing

Good time to revisit this discussion, particularly the “can Indiana win the whole thing” portion.

They won. What do you want to say about it?

You were saying Indiana, Ole Miss, Tech and Oregon “have almost no chance”. Specifically that Indiana “not going to win it all though”. There is more parity than there has ever been. There is more opportunity for someone other than the Usual Suspects to crash the party.

I guess if they have enough money, sure.

Thats a fact. But without NIL, these newbies would have no chance to crash the party. You may have the setup. You may think the iceberg is coming. But, you cant argue that NIL has created more parity than there has ever been, which is great for the sport.
