Sakamoto just joined the team in the spring semester.
Funny seeing old friend Ken Marantz’ name on PFBlog. I had actually asked him about Sakamoto after I saw he had committed to us. Rin has a ways to go, since he’s never wrestled folkstyle before.
Marshall, if you’re a huge wrestling fan, and not just about the Pokes, check out Masanosuke Ono, who won 2024 Worlds in dominating fashion including over the latest Olympic champ, Uguev: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf7eHZSJO1E
That would explain some of the weird body movements that I saw out of him the other night.
Sadly I didn’t get to see it, been fighting a cold. Japanese don’t wrestle folkstyle so they have to learn it. I think it could definitely help those with Olympic aspirations w/ freestyle, which is one of Sakamoto’s goals.
He’ll get better, but at what weight is he going to have a chance to see a lot of action next season? Can he beat Hughes? He could go down to 125, but probably can’t rank Spratley off.
Check out this Japanese kid, talk about dominant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf7eHZSJO1E
