Why Doug Meacham Named Offensive Assistant Clint Bowen Interim Defensive Coordinator

So when has that ever happened at OSU in the last 25 years or so pertaining to football? Besides December of last year? You’re already projecting something that’s not even happened yet. You people act like it’s guaranteed we’re going back to 1991 when we’re already living in that scenario. It’s NOT the same way it was in the 90’s get over yourselves.

I also think he deserved the benefit, but three games isn’t a benefit of a doubt. If three games would be enough to call it, then they should have called it last season. You’re trying to bring along a new QB (ended up being two new QBs), a new offense, and a complex defense with a bunch of new players, half of which got here in June. This season wasn’t going to be good. Did I expect “lose to Tulsa” bad? No, but I honestly wasn’t floored when it happened, either.

Hey champ,

It’s not the 2000s anymore, either. We had one megadonor who had a good working relationship with our AD and that AD had the support of the administration. We now, apparently, have a multitude of loud, demanding donors and a powerless AD who is being pushed around by the donors and the board. Too many cooks.

I get that. To me, you cant fire Mike Gundy after “one bad year” in 2024. He also showed some signs of at least making changes. He deserved another year. You also cant wait to fire him (or any coach) until the end of the season. The timetable of the portal, recruiting, coaching carousel doesnt allow it. I think once this thing CLEARLY started heading in the direction that it was…they made the move. I honestly was shocked that they had the nuts to do it. I figured theyd let him ride it out and it would be the most entertaining circus you could imagine. If they fired him last Jan, there would be a ton of backlash due to any coach with his resume deserving better. But now, they essentially let Mike fire himself. There isnt a single entity saying they shouldnt have gotten rid of him. I think they actually have handled this pretty well. Now, lets see who they hire. I cant see how any OSU fan can argue that, to be honest. But I know you feel differently, which is fine.

For me your arguments are pretty much spot on. However it’s done and now we need to mitigate the damage. Hopefully whoever is calling the shots can pull that off. One idea I saw was to get Zac to accept the HC job in the next few weeks and make that announcement. Even though he wouldn’t be able to join the team until after the NFL season knowing who the HC is going to be might help with player retention and recruiting. Seemed pretty plausible to me. I guess we will see what really transpires in the next weeks and months.

The home loss to Tulsa for the first time since 1951 was the final nail in the coffin.
