I’m fine with the hire as long as we don’t end up having our defensive version of Dunn.

My guess is and has been Joe Bob. He will stick around as his track record has shown that.

So, “I like the hire, but I reserve the right to blame it all on Gundy if it doesn’t work.”

If he has a good year or two they will be calling and maybe k-state. It is what it is. I think he will be fine if he can recruit. This isn’t the pass happy big twelve anymore so looking good as a defensive coach just won’t be as hard. I mean you can’t tell me that the whole time the big twelve was running the wide open spread that all those defensive coaches that coached in the big twelve all sucked right?

Need a quarterback in a hurry.

Is he not the one who is supposed to evaluate his coaches and make the best possible decisions for the program?

This is exactly what I’m talking about. It’s the “Don’t Blame Gundy” syndrome. How many people are we going to blame besides Gundy for our one conference title in 17 years?

No you’re right and think about the QB’s during that time, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Brandon Weeden, who ever was at Tech, RG3, Bryce Petty, Mason Rudolph, Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield. A lot of those guys went on to have success in the NFL and even the ones that didn’t were dang good in college, there’s just not that caliber of talent at the QB position right now.

“I will second guess all of Gundy’s decisions in hindsight, acting like I’m some sort of guru, but if I have to make a decision in real time, then Gundy is the expert and take anything I say with a grain of salt. I’ll complain that he makes millions to make these decisions without acknowledging that these decisions are nearly impossible. It doesn’t matter how well he recovers from missteps, he should have made every decision perfectly to begin with.”

My actual ‘hope’ is Joe Bob. He seems to have the character that oSu can best put to good use. A promotion may become a stepping stone for Coach Clements, but then we wish him well and move on. Good coordinators will always get other opportunities. Even Saban at Alabama has a bit of a revolving door…

If the promotion happens and doesn’t work out, all can feel free to blame it on me!! …for hoping it so. I much prefer Clements to an outsider that may or may not fit the Cowboy culture. :cowboy_hat_face: :cowboy_hat_face: :cowboy_hat_face:

Nobody is saying he has to make perfect decisions all the time. All we are asking is for him to not be so predictable all the time. If you don’t believe me then just ask other people on here.

Hell!!! Go ask people that support different teams. There is a reason OU fans love it that we hang on to Gundy. It’s because he is really good at giving them the automatic W. His nearly 80% success rate against his biggest rival proves it.

How many times do you have to get it wrong with Baylor also? 4-7 in his last 11 meetings with them. Also, two of those four wins came against them when Baylor was 1-11 and 2-7 (when they had 42 players out for the game in 2020). You’re just another Gundy excuser.

Started rite off with a lie Joey. U say he has to be perfect.
It will be tuff to say how anybody does next year coaching. I will say at least 8 of the teams offenses should be better. And it will be hard to replace the players we lose. But, u joe will be find to tell us how bad we are because of the new coach. Just like u blame everything on the offense on play calling.
Do not answer back about play calling, I have explained many times that playing correlates with personal.
Dnt tell me I put down Knowles. I only do it with u because ur an idiot.

You left something out, player development. If a player never develops, hard to add more plays that they can’t do. Of course that all has to do with coaching, so don’t mention it. Still today Sanders very best game was his very first game. They haven’t been able to develop a quarterback behind him who would do better and can’t bring one from the portal that can play so that crap about developing players doesn’t apply to quarterbacks.

Ok like I said dnt post back.
I know when ur shoveling chit experience plays lil in it.
We had no returning starters as recievers. So they were developing.

Asking someone to be a little better than 3-14 in Bedlam and 1-4 in championship games isn’t what I would consider “Asking Gundy to be perfect”.

You only do it because your too stupid to realize how much our bland play calling limits our personnel. Imagine if we could prepare even better than just one game a year on the offensive side of the ball.

I agree. Like a QB that continually throws behind his receiver after being on campus for four years. Guess the HC that’s a former QB can’t spend 15-20 minutes a day with him helping him improve anything.
