Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris spoke of selfishness that would be punished, while quarterback Drew Mestemaker spoke of remorse. Fans probably won’t see the former, but it didn’t take long to see the latter, as Young posted on X hours after the game. “I apologize to all cowboy football supporters, my teammates, and coaches for the lack of discipline and selfishness I displayed today,” Young said. “Football is a team sport and one play, like the one I made, can change the outcome of the whole game and I’m sorry for that.” It’s possible Oklahoma State’s defense might have given up a touchdown anyway, but Young’s penalty earned after walking toward the crowd following his go-ahead touchdown didn’t help. Oklahoma State kicker Joseph Kim kicked off seven times before the penalty. Those resulted in five touchbacks, one fair catch inside the 25-yard line, and a 21-yard return, which meant Iowa State began all seven drives on its own 25-yard line. Given Young’s 15-yard penalty, Iowa…
I haven’t liked this kid’s barking all season, and I like it even less now. I recognize there are different personalities, and I can’t expect everyone to be a clone of Barry Sanders, but this is waaay too much Baker Mayfield for me to be proud this kid is a Cowboy.
All year long he has been mouthing after catches. I am shocked it took this long to get a penalty. If i see it, then NFL scouts see it. He needs to watch an hour of James Washington highlights to see how u act.
Too much antics in college football. Coaches need to teach them to act with class. That impresses everyone.
Accepted. Let’s move on. K-State this week!!
His penalty was a factor in the game, but so was allowing 581 yards including 272 rushing. So was intercepting a pass and then 3 straight incompletions and a missed FG. Muffing a punt, throwing a pick in the 4th quarter etc.
Agreed. It was just one of the many factors/mistakes. Can’t do that but also can’t give up that many yards and big plays and expect to win
Agreed, the penalty wasn’t the only problem, but in a game of inches, you can’t say it didn’t literally change the outcome of the game either. Any one particular play could’ve changed the outcome, which is why it’s so crazy that the defense literally cannot get a single critical stop when it is most needed - it’s happened in two games now.
And Morris’s colossal error of leaving too much time on the clock? Young deserved the flag but had OSU taken 2 or 3 plays to score instead of 1, that might have made a big difference. Sure, maybe Iowa State gets the stop - but their defense wasn’t any better than ours last night.
