Flores got last year back.
Great news, especially if he ends up the starter.
That should’ve been a very easy decision for the NCAA. Wanna see Flores as QB1 from the start of the season!
I believe Flores will start and Henjny will come in on third down situations etc… they will not recognize his redshirt and he plays most of the season in that role unless Flores struggles. Like I have said in the past after attending practices Flores was always the best option (Gundy didn’t see it that way) and is really good and looks the part but how that translates to real games is still a mystery and a wait and see.
Gundy didn’t have a choice about playing him last year. Gundy was looking for anyone to play instead of Bowman. Flores definitely would’ve gotten his shot if healthy.
I guess this year depends on how much of a premium we put on QB mobility.
I know he didn’t have a choice last year as I was speaking about the year before.
I think you will be surprised with Flores mobility - he can move - he not going to be a Hejny but he wil surprise people.
Yeah… unless you have to start a freshman QB, it’s probably best to not. Rudolph is our second best QB of all time, and he was solid, but very limited as a freshman. Even Vince Young who is probably the best college QB I’ve ever seen was a shadow of what he would become as a freshman and had to share snaps to make it work.
Maybe that pays some dividends with experience next year, but you’re not putting our your best team that year. Do we make the conference game with Flores over Bowman? Probably not.
Gundy did have a choice two years ago where he decided to go with Bowman because of past experience and leadership - but what I saw in practice Bowman was not as good as Flores or Rangel…Gundy has a history of not being the best evaluator of QB talent which is bewildering since he was a former QB.
I think that criticism is fair but overblown. Bowman did lead us to the conference championship game and had a Bedlam win. He regressed (or the offense/offensive line did) the second year, but that’s a high bar you’re putting out there. We’ll see how Flores looks if he gets a chance to start.
