Rotating players in and out on these non-conference cupcakes is actually a good idea. The score might be closer than we like, and they could screw and lose a game they should have won, but keeping guys healthy and getting second and third stringers some reps is a win-win in my book. They donât need a 40-point blowout, they just need to win. Even with the QBs and RBs - yes, I know everyone wants to win the Heisman, but this is whatâs best for the team, not the individual. I expect to see the same rotations next week, and then when the conference schedule starts itâll be nailed out with a more definitive first/second/third string.
Defense overall was pretty solid - but the big chunk plays are still a concern. ASU was a step or two away from what could have been some huge, game-changing plays at times. Gotta tighten up on those.
Did you get your $100?
@bill18 Money received. Thanks! Youâve helped me cover my annual KState bet, which seems Iâm destined to fall behind on for another year or twoâŚ
Cheers, OT
There are two things Iâve not seen mentioned in the 10 thoughts or by anyone else here:
-
We had the ball at first and goal down at the 2 yard line. We had gotten a penalty and eventually had to settle for three points.
-
Rashada threw an interception and we got it down to our 25 yard line I believe. We didnât get any points out of that drive. I think that may have been the one where Hale missed the FG.
That stuff needs to be cleaned up. We left a potential 14 points out on the field in exchange for 3 points. Just seems like every time we do something positive weâre finding a way to subtract from it, and that will kill us later on down the line unless we have an excellent defense.
In my quest for pragmatic positive honesty, at this point I donât think we need to worry about Dickey getting poached this year.
Thatâs fine IF you know youâre going to win. Gundy May think he knows that, but entering the 4th quarter locked in a one score game is a recipe for disaster.
Obviously weâve been more skilled than CA & ASU, but football has an element of luck.
To use a metaphor: Iâve texted and driven a few times (sad but true). Iâve never been in an accident while doing so, therefore you may conclude this is âactually a good strategyâ to be more efficient.
The truth is it isnât a good strategy. In fact, itâs a very poor strategy. Iâve just been lucky to come out on the right side.
Donât confuse being fortunate with being wise.
(Talking strictly about the QB carousel here. If youâre talking rotating position players then yeahâŚ. Every coach in the country does that. All season, and especially in the non-con. Not really a bold take there.)
Thought the D-line looked decent for a game two with a lot of new players. Had a blown coverage for a td , but other than that the dbâs were decent
Give me a bunch of Gordonâs and Oliverâs. Both those guys played well
Iâm not sure who is the best qb ? Iâm not as high on Rangle as a lot here are. When they have an all out blitz looks like we need a short dump off pass when they do. All 3 backs looked good to me
OL started to get better as the game went on
Considering we knew we were young in the secondary I thought they played decent othef then the busted td.
Oliver said they only showed a little of what they have practiced
Rangles delay of game was on him. That probably cost a td. Lots of silly penalties need cleaned up
You realize getting a bunch of Olivers and Gordons means Gundy would have to recruit 4 star guys right?
I donât think Oliver was a 4 star. Not positive though. You go along with joy , tea , and all the stupid people in here that offer nothing but negative chit. Thatâs your right , Gundy develops kids into 4 stars You also think here is a haven that all the 4/5? star kids want to come
You add nothing but negativity. The one thing that really needs fixing is the OL , Iâve agreed with that. Iâm not high on Dickey but we have him. That is on Gundy
Oliver was rated a 4 star on some of the sites. I think there are more 4 star players that would come to OSU if the coach put effort into recruiting them. Would we get 20 4 stars a class? No, but we should be able to get 6-10 a year if Gundy put effort into landing them. The only team with a lower average rating in the Big 12s 2023 class is BYU. Keep making excuses for the recruiting though.
The âwe canât get kids like that to come to Stillwaterâ argument is so tiresome. Of course we canât compete with the juggernauts, but thatâs not what this is about. Look at every team recruiting rank - there are consistently OSU-esque (with less on-field success) teams that out rank us every year. Within and outside of the BIG XII.
Geography does not equate to recruiting success. If it did, Rutgers would be dominant.
The 2023 recruiting class is sitting at #55 in the country by the way. Pretty pathetic.
Point taken. Maybe you should get a petition up for âFire Gundy â then put a search out for a good replacement, that will stay. I donât care who the coach is as long as they win. Gundy has done that, but only one CC He has a bunch of wins and top ten in wins against top 25 teams So whereâs that coach that will match that ⌠and stay
Those other teams you speak of , have they had good years then years they suck ? You do know NIL money is a big factor in getting a kid. The goons have given a bunch of money just to walk ons They have got most of the in state talent by throwing money to them even with no scholarship
Keep making the excuses buddy. You do realize when Gundy hangs it up the fridge will be bare for the next guy right?
