Bowman had a HC that knew how to run an offense and eventually became a HC in the NFL. Right now, Bowman has a WR coach sitting in a press box pretending to be an OC in season four.
Ive said it for a year nowâŚthis season is a MAJOR crossroads in the Gundy era. It definitely is appearing as though his act has worn thin in Stillwater.
I think most of the press, fans, admins think OSU has been punching above their weight and should only hope for 6 or 7 wins/season. In their minds we donât deserve to be a 10 win/season team. Theyâd rather not because that means they have to travel to Stillwater a few times a year.
The transfer portal class ranked 57th overall. What gave you the idea it would be good? Especially knowing who our OC and OL coach is?
Agreed. Why canât people see that lack of NIL money isnât responsible for this idiotic three qb rotations, 10 years of crap o-line, and predictable play calling?
Its neither the problem, nor the solution. Its also not an option. OSU isnt in the position to offer up $50k NIL deals to 10 guys a recruiting class. Not to mention even if they were, is $50k enough to bring a kid to OSU right now?
We also need to put out a Missing Persons Alert for Kendal Daniels.
For the last 2 years, OSU fans have been excited about moving from a mid position in the Big 12 to an upper position in a probable non-power 5 Big 12, but the truth is hard. We will continue to be a mid program in a weaker conference. We have stood pat with a HC that has no appearance of even caring anymore. There is zero recruiting going on, zero ingenuity with either offense or defense and absolutely zero urgency about the slow deterioration of our program. While Kansas is trying to improve, we are slowly sliding down along with the likes of ISU. The only benefit is that this will probably be the last year for awhile that we get our asses kicked by OU.
The slide downward can be stopped pretty quickly with the right HC and the right QB. Just look at what TCU did last year and Colorado this year.
If Pat Jones didnât have sanctions on him I think heâd done better than what he did. Heâs at midtown Kia almost every Friday if you or anyone ever wants to talk to him in person. His personal take is a bit different than what he says on air. Iâve talked to him in person a few times. He wonât exactly criticize Gundy but say Mike will be Mike and what he might do different. Jones is pretty brilliant to me.
Itâs enough to bring in decent enough lineman to get us over that four yards per rush that Gundy loves to talk about, and yet, canât ever seem to get there. Of course, I feel like Dunn and Dickey have a lot to do with that as well.
Your right absolutely. Outside of Deion being flashy heâs pretty smart. He has a system he wants to run and got players and coaches to fit the schemes he wants. Even told good players if you canât play this style itâs not for you and wanted them to go somewhere where they fit it. He didnât run players off like some media made it sound.
Coach Prime was brought in to turn that program around and win. He did exactly what the Colorado administration wanted him to do (so far). Itâs a new era of college football and OSU hasnât adjusted. Theyâre still trying to use the same methods as when Gundy first got here. I donât necessarily think heâs the guy (at his age, and the way heâs been taught) thatâs going to figure out NIL, the portal, or the generations coming up. Prime is someone who does tend to understand that. You have to be a person that guys would want to play for and give you all they have. Gundy doesnât strike me as that type of coach.
So on to the two main questions on everyoneâs minds right now:
-
Which coaches are getting fired?
-
Which players will be entering the transfer portal?
He never was. They made him hire Holgorsen.
I just want to note to those on the board roasting our players, such as Bowman or the Oline: Its not the kidsâ fault that our coaches suck. How does Bowman go FOUR drives and have 1 handoff to our best RB? How is it that Gundyâs kid had more rushing attempts than our best RB? The O-line is terrible because the O-Line coach is terrible. You canât tell me that our kids are LESS talented than what South Alabama is putting out there. But coaching matters. The 2 star linemen on the other side of the field got coaching, and the 3 stars on our side didnât. Yea, Bray dropped a pass that led to a punt. So did the USA receiver in their second drive, which led to a punt. But they, unlike us, didnât wilt when it happened.
The point is it takes a new HC. Thatâs not going to happen here until the program reaches rock bottom.
Hey, at least we got to see 30 points scored.
You wonât see people enter the portal as its not a transfer window. But watch for players who have a redshirt available to suddenly stop playing games. Guys like Ollie Gordon, who could transfer and play at any school in the country, comes to mind. He could ask the coaches to make this a redshirt year for him, which would be a sign heâs entering the portal come December. Also remember that those that transferred here, unless they are graduating wonât get a second transfer. The NCAA is cracking down on the waiver approval for guys going to their 3rd school. But come December, Iâll be shocked if we donât see just as many players transfer out as we saw last year.
You dont have to have a new coach. OU was in a similar spot in 2015. They fired the Favorite Son Heupel and took a chance on a nobody from East Carolina. They also stumbled into Baker MayfieldâŚand the trajectory of the program and the latter stages of the Stoops era.
