10 Thoughts on Oklahoma State's 38-14 Loss to West Virginia

On a lot of disappointment.

Considering how porous the D has been this year (especially against P4 competition), how can anyone be surprised by West Virginia’s success at running the ball?

Inept coaching produces inept team. Gundy needs to resign and take his unwarrented arrogance with him. Should have benched Bowman two games ago!

Absolutely

ESPN broadcaster calls for Ollie Gordon to sit out remainder of season.

Kinda entertaining. I like that Gundy is still turning 3☆ into 4☆ it’s just on the other team.

Easy decision at QB. When someone has performed as poorly as Bowman, you put the next man up in the game. if he is unable to perform you give the next guy a chance. That is how you find the unexpected diamond in the rough. I would do the same with the entire defensive line at this point, put in the next man up. You’re looking for kids with heart at this point so that you can build for next year.

Previously, I never called to get rid of Gundy but I do think it is time for him to go. He brought great stability to OSU (with limited upside). I now see a lazy head coach that has no fire in him. Sticking with low caliber assistant coaches leads to poor practices and game planning. The recruiting had been terrible for years, it seems we have high school level talent on the depth chart. His communication skills are awful and doesn’t take ownership of his sh#t shows (games). He will lose the players and is already losing fans. His downslide has been going on for several years, not only this year.(I realize last years upside)

Gundy is safe, for now. However, start Bowman again and we can all start the chants to fire him. Starting Bowman another game will be the most egregious error he can make for the program. It’s now a 2 QB system with Rangel and Flores. You see who is better this year and they become the starter for next season. That’s the only plan forward with the QB situation.

Also, Fire Dunn yesterday, last week, last month, ect. Get that guy out of the building.

Nardo, you tried. You ain’t it. Bye.

Perfectly stated.

I think the issues on defense are the scheme. 3-3-5 is garbage imo.

I would say Nardo’s version of the 3-3-5 is :wastebasket:
Iowa State has been using it for a minute to good success.

Just have to recruit better and develop. This has not been happening for way to long here.

Has it though? Let’s see. Iowa State record since 2015 is 61-57. Average. Let’s see the total defense rankings.

Defense rankings for ISU
2024 = 13th
2023 = 44th
2022 = 18th
2021 = 21st
2020 = 25th
2019 = 49th
2018 = 37th
2017 = 26th
2016 = 87th
2015 = 97th

I believe I read that they implemented it around 2010-2013. Top 25 defense in 4 of the last 5 years. You are correct on ISU.

It’s hard for kids to “have heart” when your coaches lack the will to do their jobs.

Dunn and Dickey need to be gone. I’ve never seen such inept playing calling or execution by an OL since 2014. Keep in mind our 2014 team was the 4th youngest team in the country.

We returned almost all our starters from this team and they’re looking almost exactly like that 2014 team. The fact we’re doing way less with way more is a direct sign that coaching is essentially nonexistent at this point.

If you want change then make it happen by signing here:

Weird how this is the most players Gundy has ever returned, and his conference start is just as bad as his first season. I never want to hear anyone say again “Gundy does more with less”. That statement is simply not true. Please see seasons 2013, 2017, and 2024 as proof.

Iowa St is using the same 3-3-5 defense and they are only giving up 10 points a game and are ranked 13th in Total Defense. Lots of teams have a 3-3-5 package. Although, that being said, I wouldn’t mind switching back to a 4-2-5 to try to stop the bleeding.

Given the hits we’ve taken at LB, that’s actually not a bad idea. Maybe elevate Joe Bob Clements to sole DC as he has some knowledge of the 4-2-5 as he worked under Knowles? I don’t know just spit balling here.

Here’s a thought, we’ll be lucky to win another game. The whole coaching staff stinks. Won’t make any changes to the starters, just keep doing the same thing thinking the end results will change. Gumby has LOST this team…

That new D-line coach worked out better than Greg Richmond, huh?!
