OSU has a checkered history after being ranked inside the preseason top 15.

Doesnt tell us a.ything acouple that were 4 spots together. Most were far a part. Its mostly based on last year results with up ur down on return players.

“Of the five previous times OSU was a preseason top-15 team under Gundy — 2020, 2017, 2013, 2011 and 2009 — four of the instances resulted in OSU finishing the season either unranked or ranked lower than the preseason.”

And the only Gundy team to avoid that so far is the only conference championship team he’s had.

Blah blah blah it works both ways. Perseason polls are a joke most time.you got 5 sec teams up in the top 10 and texas is ranked. In the last 10 years how has either faired

So when the pressure is on gundy, he has fallen short is what is implied here. Old news. Can’t be a great coach when you choke in big games sorry.

Because we finally had an assistant coach that was worth a dam, and a defense that didn’t decide to consistently give up 7-8 yards per play. If Gundy was truly such an offensive genius we wouldn’t be playing catch up from behind, or implementing Kansas game plans against top 10 teams.

That’s why the dude can’t win another conference title. Gundy’s two best seasons in his career so far were because he had an offensive genius and then a defensive one.

Let’s get real. The preseason AP poll combines the guesses of 60 sports media folks. How can 60 busy people know enough about 131 teams, in the preseason, to accurately rank them in order? Arguing and name calling over poll porn is a waste of time and energy.

One thing I noticed in a lot of those 5 seasons mentioned outside of 09 is we were ranked in the top 10 late into the season and then the loss to OU would drop us below our preseason ranking.

So looking at “Preseason ranking as an indicator of Final Season Ranking” we can see it’s essentially random.
From the PR perspective, Random is much better than a consistent under ranking. Or in the case of Texas the entire nation understands the “narrative for ad $'s” effect.

I suspect that our preseason ranking is likely most impacted by other team’s perception (UT namely) as they have to spread the wealth of preseason rankings across multiple leagues (except SEC of course).

And we still don’t have our second conference title against a team we had multiple opportunities to beat. Championship caliber coaches find a way to win most of the time instead of finding ways to lose. That’s the entire point I’m making.
